Since joining the forum and making good progress on my US TurboDuo project, I expanded my collection a bit with some local, PCEFX forum, and auction purchases.  All of this happened in a month.  This was my first PCEFX forum purchase, likely my last local purchase, that is fitting.

I asked a senior member of the forums and I decided to create this thread for other members to update with their own finds for whatever current month it is when they make a post.  Good idea?

I figure a post of mine with a picture/explanation/text will kick things off.  I like the idea of pictures instead of a games found text list; at least pictures are more interesting.  I think listing prices would be in bad taste, and keeping them out of the thread would prevent it from becoming a brag thread.  I am aiming more for of fun/cool/inspirational vibe.

For the month of May-June:
IMG

Personal notes:
Wow, this is the largest amount of games I have ever purchased at one time!  The month before this, I only found Vigilante.  The copy of Shape Shifter wraps up my long search nicely.  This is my very first ICOM game.  Finding Loom was also a stroke of luck, it does not appear very often at all (in my opinion).  The sports games are fun:  Davis Cup Tennis kept slipping through at auction, and Takin it to the Hoop will replace my loose copy.  Of extra special note is Shockman.  Not only is it my favorite of the pictured, but it joins my very small game box collection.  Now, officially, I need two hands to count them all!  I also love the anime cover art!  I may try to remove the sharpie with rubbing alcohol, then again...maybe not.  It is very worn but I am, equally, very happy with it and my finds for the month!  This is a lot of great gaming  8)
THANKS TO ALL PCEFX members who have helped fix my hardware and add to my games library!  What a thrill!

I finally got a good deal on Vasteel.  There are not many "cheap" games left on my list though.

This month I went a tad overboard 'money-wise', but I did get a deal on everything I bought:

- CIB World Sport's Competition
- CIJ Klax
- Shockman w/ game and manual
- CIJ Parodius Da!
- CIJ Parasol Stars
- CIJ Takin' It To the Hoop

and that's all she wrote
12 hard black inches of pure fun, the TurboGrafx 16.

I got my 3rd copy of US Magical Chase and a few games for my PS3

There is actually not much more that I am looking to get TG-16, but I did get this:
(Thanks to Bklyn4ever.)

This box brings my CIB TG-16 library to near-complete!
(I should post up some pics...)

The only boxes remaining are:
Lords of the Rising Sun - a forum member here has this for me, so I'll have this before too long.  :)
Magical Chase

Do you like the game?  It seems like a unique game for the system and one that I have been on-and-off searching for since I watched TurboViews' youtube review.

Congrats on the find!

I actually haven't taken the time to play it yet.

In recent days, honing my Tatsujin skills for VGS has taken all of my game time.  I'll have to get to this before too long.  I already had a CIC copy with no box, so this recent acquisition leaves me with an extra CIC copy.  If anyone  is interested, it's in my trade/sell thread in my signature.

How many "buy stuff" threads do we have now? There's:
"teh "what did you buy today"-thread "
"What PC-Engine Stuff did you get today?"
"Your new TG16/CD collection purchases for the month?"
"Upcoming games u plan on buying and why?"
"Not sure on what to buy next"
"What did I buy?"
"Your recent purchases and impressions"

I look forward to further segmenting and bumping our purchases to the top of each and every subforum. Quick: What PCE Homebrew did you buy today? What LD-ROM's did you buy today? What VC Games did you buy today?

I agree that all of them together may be a bit much, but the "teh "what did you buy today"-thread " doesn't seem to scratch the itch of seeing Turbo-only related items together, and since the TG-16 and PC Engine have separate boards, it seems that 3 threads would be about right.  Of course, 2 threads could be fine if titled correctly - something like "What Obey Have You Recently Acquired?" and "What Nobey Have You Recently Acquired?"

vestcunt,
You didn't respond to my explanation above about the "teh "what did you buy today"-thread " often being clogged up with non-Turbo-related purchases.
I (and many others, I presume) could care less about almost all non-Turbo-related purchases and would appreciate having a single Turbo-related purchases thread.  Because this forum separates the TurboGrafx-16 from the PC Engine (a possible mistake in my opinion), having a single thread in each board would seem to make sense.  The alternative would be to only have 2 threads - Obey and Nobey, both in the Chit-Chat Board.

The problem with that is that the Chit-Chat Board is in the Non-NEC Console Related Discussion section of this forum...  And the "teh "what did you buy today"-thread " is actually in the Console Chat Board in the Non-NEC Console Related Discussion section of this forum, and the Console Chat Board specifically states, "Talk about any non-NEC related consoles here."  This means that the "teh "what did you buy today"-thread " should technically be only for non-Turbo-related purchases.   :-"

Therefore, because there is no single board logically positioned for a single Turbo-related purchases thread, it would seem that having a TurboGrafx-16-related purchases thread in the TG-16 board, and having a PC Engine-related purchases thread in the PC Engine board would make the most sense.

Complaining about people's purchases that don't interest you is petty and rather silly (and begs the question of why you'd give a shit about anything anyone else is buying), and even more crazy is basing an argument on forum divisions that are regularly disregarded anyway.  Where does it end?  At a bare minimum there should be four separate threads, but why stop there?  We could have literally hundreds (one for each system, by region), just to make sure nobody is forced to dirty their eyes by seeing a 'boring' purchase.

Or we could use the thread that worked for years before the current crop of me too collectors came along and worried that they'd not get enough time in the spotlight.

Since we don't have any moderation to create new sections or anything, why doesn't someone create a separate forum as a spiritual extension to this one, and fill it with all the market talk that (now) most people love to carry on multiple overlapping threads for? Then this forum would be for Turbo/PCE/PC-FX and general video game discussion and the extended forum wouldn't have all the market talk diluted by cranky game enthusiasts. It would also save the 30 new market enthusiast members each month from having to wait so long for approval (to begin shopping). Everyone wins.

If you'll reread my comments, you'll see that I was not complaining about "people's purchases that don't interest me".  Rather, I was pointing out the fact that some people (myself included) enjoy seeing Turbo-related purchases which people have made recently.  Seeing such may elicit various responses, such as: congratulations to someone who has finally found something he has been looking for, razzing someone who has purchased a 'dog of a game', thoughts of, "I didn't know about that game.  Maybe I should look into getting that game as well.", etc...  Whatever the response, it is rather obvious from current "What have you bought?"-style threads that there is a segment of the forum which enjoys such.

This being said, having Turbo-related purchases separate from non-Turbo-related purchases allows the forum reader to choose more carefully what he would like to read/view.  The fact that forum divisions are often disregarded is no excuse to promote/defend such behavior.  I heard that thousands of people are jumping off of bridges...   :-" :-" :-"

So, have you already scanned all 7 of these?

Now I want to try to figure out a good way to get the address labels off of the 2 magazines without damaging the magazines like someone already did to one of them.

Also, I'm not really sure what the going rate is for magazines like these is.  I paid $93 shipped for all 7.

I'm about as single minded as they come around here, giving zero fucks for nobey, yet even I can handle skimming over that which doesn't interest me.  Again, this worked fine for years.  It's only the recent insta-collectors that have a problem.

That is correct.  Again, my thought is that seeing only Turbo-related purchases in a thread is what a segment of the forum population would like to see.

For those viewing the forum on a smartphone, small tablet, etc..., the ability to view only the pictures in which one is interested would be useful, and just because you don't mind skimming over that which doesn't interest you doesn't mean that others don't want to bother with it.  Also, since the "What PC-Engine Stuff did you get today?" thread was started over a year ago, and is now up to 29 pages, it shows that there is a willingness of the forum to use threads appropriately.

Also, the statement, "this worked fine for years" could be used for many things - cassette tapes, Commodore 64's, Model T cars, outhouses...

Although I'm not into "haul" media, I get why people here would like to have a thread for "OBEY" acquirements, separate from regular gaming ones. What I don't understand is the need to dedicate threads to sub-sections of PCE/Obey/Turbob, beyonv thd existing PCE thread(s).

Especially something as small as the Turbo stuff, which most people (even the collectards who shun Japanese stuff) love to hate on for being so ugly. It would make more sense to have independant threads for HuCards and CDs or even CD2 and SCDs before strictly Turbo.

After having learned much about the PC Engine, I agree with you.  The separate forum divisions for PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 do seem somewhat redundant.  They are the same system with the same games (albeit, neither incarnation of the system had all of the games published for its region), so lumping them together just seems right...  But..., for anyone who has only ever experienced the TurboGrafx-16, I can see how the separation of the two would be mildly useful up until the time that such person learned enough about the system to link them together in his mind.  That said, if it were up to me, with what I know now, I would put them together,

It has been just a few days short of a month since the last update, here are my purchases!
IMG

Soldier Blade's purchase wraps up my several years long search for a copy.  It was not a hard release to locate, it is just that demand for the title is very strong.  I was always outbid at auction.  This copy came up at a great BIN price and I went for it! The game really is worth the solid/wonderful reputation it has gained over the years, I can get to the 5th stage before it starts to get brutally hard.  The manual is a near perfect reproduction of an original, the texture and faded colors give it away as a color laserjet.  I was so pleased with the reproduction I asked the seller if he made any more!  Oddly enough, it is looking more and more like I may be paying more for Super Star Soldier  than Soldier Blade if current price trends hold.  That seems a little insane given SB's release date and better reputation.

Bravoman - I have been a fan of Namco's other early efforts on the TG-16 and this is no different.  I wish they would have tried out Rolling Thunder on the platform, that would have been neat.  This game is solid and enjoyable, I find myself coming back to it a lot.

Dropoff - Err, I have not gotten the hang of this yet, and I almost wish it had a hidden version of Breakout included.  The digital control is twitchy.

TE power adapter - Since I started collecting, I noticed these almost never come on the market loose, most are tied to system packages for sale.  It cost about as much as a new 3rd party option, but I value it being on OEM part.  It got me motivated to finally fix the broken power jack in my TE.  Thank's PCEFX member Keith Courage, again, for the correct replacement part link!

Dragon's Curse - I had always been curious about the link to the SMS favorite Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.  One of the top games for the SMS is just as fun on the TG-16.  I have so far made it to Hawk-Man and look forward to finishing the game soon.  I am especially grateful that this uses the Duo's backup RAM save feature.  No passwords to cell phone snap!

Space Harrier - another favorite of mine from the SMS.  I hold the SMS version in high regard, but I also say that the TG16 port was the most arcade accurate way to play until the 32X and more known Saturn ports came out.  Like Fantasy Zone's port, it makes me wonder how different things might have been with a Christmass 1988 USA launch instead of the TG-16 going toe-to-toe with the Genesis/SNES.  Fun game, of course.

Somer Assault - this was one of my wish list games, I never thought I would find one for an affordable price.  Thank you Beemer!  The game is a hybrid shooter/puzzler and I like it a lot.  It is very different than most any other game I have played.  I got a few bosses into the game and it started to bend my brain a bit.  What a game!

Night Creatures - it's a lot like Kung-Fu but with a bit of a plot.  So far, the animal forms seem to play worse than the human form.  The game is brutally difficult.  I'll keep at it.

Hit the Ice - The simple control scheme helps the game shine.  Clearly the best hockey game on the TG-16; thank you Taito for your support.  I usually dislike sports games, but this one plays very well and has held up.  It is worth a pickup in addition to the NHL series on the other 16-bit consoles.

World Sports Competition - my first game from the 1993 set!  It plays like Konami's arcade Track & Field/Hyper Sports.  Not bad TTI.  Bomberman '93 may well be the only other 1993 release I get to own...still looking for that one.

Order of the Griffon - Wow, not only an official D&D game, but it is very easy to pickup and play too.  The game's 1st person perspective is quick and easy to navigate.  The battles remind me of an obscure Genesis RPG called Sorcerer's Kingdom.  The game artwork on the card/manual is incredible.

King of Casino - I suck at all Casino games:  they teach me to avoid real gambling because I always lose.  This one has an over world screen and multiple Casinos to try.  I don't hate it as much as most of the type.

Balistix - the sampled voice clip that plays before EACH match...starts to wear me down.  I can either win each round or loose each round in a few seconds.  I need a live buddy and DuoTap to enjoy this one, I think.

Motoroader - I thought this would be a complete dud of a game after watching YouTube videos of the gameplay.  I was very, very wrong.  I played it for four hours last night, the same day I got it in the mail.  Very much like a prototype for the Micro Machines games but with it's own style and rules.  I like it, a lot.  This gets my vote for the best driving game on the system, in the US library anyhow.

That wraps up this past month.  My research suggests I only have 9 to 10 titles before I run into the expensive wish-list type releases.  Anyone have a favorite import shop for the CD-ROM releases from Japan?  I welcome anyone that is willing to point me in the right direction.

I forget what this game is even about.  I hear it is a fairly faithful arcade port, which speaks volumes about how shitty the arcade game must have been.  The graphics are very simplistic and colorfully cartoony, which isn't a criticism as that is what they were going for.  The sound isn't too bad, but not all that great.  My biggest complaint is that the game just bores me to tears. I give it 1 fuck out of 5.

What makes this game bad is the wonky controls. I remember really liking the arcade version though.

Hooray! I fully intend on obeying these forums again at work tomorrow now. :)

Granted I'm on Tapatalk right now and don't see any sigs so I'm hoping that animated gif won't be around when I check the forums on a real computer tomorrow.

Thanks from me too!  I wanted to OBEY but my work would have had a cow with that prior sig!
THANKS TO ALL PCEFX members who have helped fix my hardware and add to my games library!  What a thrill!

I don't care about the game myself, I just think it's a great accomplishment though that a fan team (Ark/Oldman) was able to create a working HuCard homebrew game in 2014!
