No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Greetings everybody.

When I was a kid, I didn't get a TurboGrafx 16 until almost the end of the console's shelf life. I bought if for $99 dollars along with Legendary Axe. While I thought Keith Courage was okay, I really liked Legendary Axe a lot. I was looking forward to getting more games when suddenly, right before Christmas, all Turbo games went on sale for $20. I always had to buy games myself, so I decided to wait until after Christmas and use Christmas and birthday money to get some cheap games.
After Christmas, the shelves were completely bare in the Turbo section, and they stayed that way. What I thought was a sale, was liquidation. I had a Genesis and an SNES that also gobbled up my money, so I never got any other Turbo games. I then got sucked into the Street Fighter vortex and the next time I opened my eyes, the PlayStation was being released. I never forgot about the Turbo though. And I definitely didn't forget the pictures and articles about all those cool games I wanted to play.

Fast forward to the beginning of this year, I decided to get back into the classics. I wanted to get games I enjoyed when I was younger, and also try some of the games I missed out on. My original plan was MegaDrive, Famicom, SuperFamicom, and NeoMVS only. But every time I passed by the PC Engine stuff, I would feel a pull. Then I spent the better part of an evening reading old Turbo and PC Engine articles and checking out YouTube videos. I cracked. I was originally going to get a Duo R/RX only, but I couldn't resist the CoreGrafx slick design. So I got a CoreGrafx for now, and I will get a Duo R/RX for the CD stuff later. That is also why I haven't posted until now. I didn't have anything to talk about.

I was curious to see what other people were paying compared to Japan, so I spent some time browsing your market threads. Just as I suspected, bend over and grab your ankles seems to be the norm in every region. I haven't had an active EBarf account since around 2001, so just for laughs I searched some prices on there and HOLY CRAP! I am sure most of you know this already. But just in case some of you don't, the prices that JP EBung sellers are charging are absolutely heinous. I was seeing used copies of Legendary Axe for $60+shipping and my sealed copy that I bought two days ago, was $25. No, it isn't sealed anymore. :) One advantage I do have, is that while I do want a complete game, I don't want every game. I only want games that I want to play and replay. If I get a hold of something that doesn't fit that I will get rid of it. For the PC Engine, it seems Sapphire and Sylphia are two of the most expensive, and I don't want either of those. So that is about $800 bucks saved.

In addition to uploading some 1CC / No Miss videos, I also want to stream some PC Engine stuff on Twitch. Aside from a rare speed run, I don't see any Turbo /PCE stuff on there. That won't be until I get my RGB mod put in though. The PC Engine does have some good composite, and with scanlines courtesy of the Framemeister it doesn't look too bad. At the end of the day, however, it is still composite and that means it has to die.

That is about it for my long ass intro. I am gonna go play some Ninja Spirit now.

Thank you very much! Been having a lot of fun playing Legendary Axe again after all these years. I am also looking forward to tearing into Neutopia once I get my Ten no Koe 2. I can't hassle with those long passwords.
