Looks like someone rubbed it down with auto headlight restorer, or Nully got to it with his astro glide. Does it reek of man spunk and rum?

Again I never said it was original.

Again you messed up in saying one duo.... read carefully "Fact 2 - There was only one version of TurboDuo sold." that would be wrong.

anyhow my pants are crankin and I was referring to you as "pro", I know who the pros are here, have spoken to a few of them and they are very professional. Now I can take a joke just as good as the next guy and as I said I have nothing personal with you, hell I don't know on that level to make a call on it, but as a poster and forum member you have been a fuck tard since I came here, and myself and others would not have hung around had it not been for other cooler members who say "pay no mind to the pole smoking fashion victim". Not everyone has the same knowledge on stuff and that's the reason many are here, to learn. For instance you know how to piss people off better than anyone else here, and most time I sit back and laugh about it but when you put words in my mouth and say things I said out of context it tents to piss me off but I'm not the one to lash out and make threats (that's an extra charge or your record) but I will stand up for what I believe to be right. Most of us come here to maybe make a friend or two and have some good times, but there is always a few in the bunch that ruin it for the real people who like to be here and learn more about what they are playing and how their systems work. So rather than just jumping on people before you have the whole story take a minute to find out whats going first. As for how or why you have mod status I wouldn't give a squirt of piss to know, any ass monkey can develop a website and drop a forum in and make anyone a mod/admin, what have you, it's what you do with it that counts.

THERE WAS ONLY ONE VERSION OF THE TURBODUO. EVER. FACT.

Please understand that we do know a little bit about the TurboDuo. You know, the console released in NORTH AMERICA.

There is but one model of TurboDuo that I know of; there are no revisions, glossy or otherwise.  Prove me wrong.

Yes, there are three PCE duos as well, but I obviously wasn't referring to duos in general.  I specifically called out one particular model for a reason.

What the hell is wrong with this website that it constantly attracts a never ending stream of these assholes?

FWIW, I think. A glossy Duo could look fantastic. It would have to be competently done and photographed well, neither seems to be there case here. I assume the terrible photos are made to disguise the terrible work.

My Duo R is starting to yellow, as is my Dreamcast, so sooner or later I'll be painting them. I'll let you all know how it comes out.

Something like the glossy PS3s?  That would look pretty nice, and would've fit in nicely with the Pioneer Elite projection tvs back in the day.

if you need hairdryer testing help, Bernie specializes in that.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... They didn't last long enough if you ask me to play around with the appearance. We got one type of TurboExpress, one TG-16, and one Turbo Duo with the rise and quick fall of TTi, no variations in boxes or appearance that I recall, etc.

Those dots indicate TG-16 era style...from earliest....when TTi came in, they restyled hardware and software aesthetics.

So, it would be fun to see what this manual thing looks like.

Interesting. I wonder if there were any pirate Duos out there. There were some pirate PCE units in the wild.

Ninja16608

The story I just heard on it comes from a pretty reputable source who told me that there was a glossy duo made for EB as a promo give away and the idea was scrapped. He happened to be in the NEC office the day they came back and was given them. He in turn gave them to some friends. As far as he knows there was 20 of them (that he got a hold of) there could be more out there. Also there was 10 more games slated to be released and never saw the light of day but there was fliers and such made up for the games. This source just happened to be a publisher who wishes me not to name him due to the child like behavior on this board and he wants no part of it. now I know the first thing out of everyone's mouth will be "oh he don't exist" or "why won't he speak up" the answer is simple she wants no part of the debate, he knows they are real and I can believe him as I have no reason not to, and yes he does know about this board and I'm sure he is a member here, but I can't blame him for not wanting to speak up. Should he want to he is more than welcome to confirm or deny what I just said.

Like I said I don't need to claim rarez anything. I do know for a fact that I have more rare shit pass through my hands in the last 3 months you most of you guys have seen in a life time. Thats not the issue here, the issue was if this was a real deal unit or not and seeing that none of you know for sure 100% and neither do I, I really don't care, it works and I enjoy it so for the haters with no duo keep on searching.

Btw, Ninja knows he's full of shit, but some other kids might actually be tempted to believe them, so I feel it is important to have one more voice here stating that he is full of shit. Some of us have DECADES into their Turbo fandom. None of us knows everything, but between all the members here you'll find the most complete Turbo lore database on Earth. Nobody here thinks there is the slightest chance that this is an official thing.

The biggest thing making it obviously fake comes from just thinking about how long the system was on the market. The Turbo Duo as a thing wasn't around very long. There were no revisions of the product that I can think of, maybe something on the PCB, but I think even that never changed. One model number the entire run. There wasn't enough time for variations, and certainly not enough money.

But even going beyond that, everyone knows that you don't add paint near a product's lifespan, you remove it! Revisions of game systems are almost always about reducing cost. Paint would increase it.

And I don't remember any EB having any demo kiosks at all back then. The stores were all super tiny, no room for anything but product.
IMG

SignOfZeta

Btw, swap out a few nouns and Ninja's case for this thing being real is essentially the same as Tonk's case for US Aero Fighters 3 (AES) being real. I got it from a guy who worked for the company, he had a bunch, he's too grown up to come forth and prove its history, etc. That turned out to be a $100,000 clusterfuck, and that was a guy with 10x the cred you'll ever have, Ninja.

I look forward to your inevitable banning.
IMG

Ninja16608

Wasn't for a demo, was a give away according to my source, and i'm not full of anything, just repeating what i am told. I have already admitted i am by far no expert but i have also been into the turbo since day one and do have some knowledge of it, and as i clearly stated before I have never seen one and if this story i was told is true and there were only 20 made chance are no one has. Just because you, me, or anyone else here has not seen something does not mean it don't exist. I'm sure I have things you never even heard of and vise versa. Some clowns feel the need to reject any possibility of something they haven't seen. Ever seen a ghost? UFO, government cover ups, no you haven't of course not, does that mean they don't happen or exist? So I will leave this alone and trust someone who worked with/along side the company over someone who just collects and played a few games over a decade. I'm 40 years old and have been into it longer than some have been alive so try another route, i'm not some punk kid with telephone tough guy syndrome. Sleep well knowing I may just very well have a rare duo or just a good paint job, in either case like I said I could not care what anyone thinks, It works, I play it, and I love it.

I too know someone who worked for Nec in Wooddale......he says your wrong.  This was cleared by a third party after it left NEC factory.  The Serial number is probably cleared under the paint or missing.  If for some foggy idea it is on top the paint I have no doubt you will find spray adhesive on the label.

I have seen a UFo actually.....it sold me a cleared duo and a Rare cleared MC for 10.00.

Wow the Bull Shit smell was stinking it up from a couple of threads over.  I don't know if this thing is real or not but a story like that is meaningless without corroboration.  Even if true it would have been better to keep it to yourself until the person in question was ready to come forward.

Self adhesive is much thinner.  Peel a label of an old case and see.  Spray on is thicker.  It wont end the debate at all.  I am sure that label can be duplicated with enough effort; however it is a tear away label meaning it has razor blade slits in it to make it harder to remove.

Now the NEC labels may be a better indication.  Those are what look like the silver backed labels that could be peeled with a razor blade.  The center label would be hard because it sits in the recess.  Some mitsubishi underhood labels are the same material and they can be carefully removed but if you pull them by hand they damage the finish to indicate they were removed.

The one thing that gives this away is the fact the CD tray is not clear.  The factory isnt going to take time to mask off areas ect.  They will take a fresh case, spray and move it down the assy line.

You want a serious answer? Ok.

 1) People try to pass off fakes and unique rare items ALL the time; it's not exclusive to retro gaming.
 2) There is a LOT of collective knowledge here at PCFX, and so if something isn't a known fact or even known rumor - then that's pretty rare. Not that it can't happen, but it is rare.
 3) So you have two things working against you: you have no credibility to this claim of yours,  nor have you taken an objective and highly detailed review of your Duo 'special case'. You seem to be content with simply looking at it.
 4) You come back with an attempt to add credibility by paraphrasing an anonymous employee who refuses to come forward. How can you not see that has the complete opposite effect of credibility? Not only that, but the coincidence of you just happening to find this employee after you were challenged on the credibility of some rumor that no one heard of. That's pretty suspect right there.
 5) The retro gaming community has many examples of people simply trying to trick the general retro gaming public - for amusement.

So there you go. Assuming you're innocent in all of this, then you're ignorant of why people would be skeptical. But it doesn't feel like that at all. You presented a fact disguised as question, and then proceeded to defended it, even coming back with a highly questionable source, who can't be confirmed, to qualify some rumor no one has heard before and your claim. And you wonder why the forum has reacted the way it has? And you even shift the blame to a forum mob mentality. Anyone with reasonable intelligence would understand this, regardless of what side you fall on (being the burden of proof, or being the audience to be persuaded).

I'm sorry, but the burden of proof is on you. Until then, this wreaks of a scam or joke. And with that, we take it as an insult that you think we're stupid enough to believe what you've presented. Thanks for that..

Not only have you failed to persuade the forum members, but the result is now your own general credibility has taken a hit. Congratulations.  =D>

Oh yeah, something the OP overlooked but I thought I'd toss in here just to put the nail in the coffin. OP seems to forget that many of us old timers were long term TZD customers who often had lengthy discussions with the guys who ran TZD. If this thing had been produced at any type of level they would have had one, or a few even, and had mentioned it at one point in any of their given conversations to customers or to Nanto, and it would have been sold before their sellout to Red Frog, or sold by Red Frog upon acquisition of all the remainder of the TZD stock.
