I'm looking for a PC Engine Duo R or RX preferably modded for Region and RGB.

NecroPhile

If you want one specifically from Doujindance, he's on ebay.

Here you want one done right by turbokon or keithcourage.

Yeah, you don't want a doujin one.

Yeah i had a Doujindance Duo R that had some problems. Had to get it fixed up by someone here. Still having weird laser problems with it. Go with someone on here, as was previously said above.

Nice to meet you, that's a wonderful story about your history and love for the PC Engine, I'm glad you're here to share with the community.

I also have a DoujinDance Duo-R, he did a shit s-video job and an almost decent RGB thing. As soon as  I'm done with door testing and such for the jelloslug person, I probably am gonna wanna have one of the cute techs here magically transform it to a component Duo-R with pretty little jacks in the back. That or buy one pre-modded and then sell this one to a friend.

Basically what I'm saying is don't buy stuff from DoujinDance.

Oh great, I was counting on the rgb for when I finally find a pvm. Mine came with a scart cable and said it was rgb modded. Guess I'll find out when the time comes.

I had Keith Courage do a better s-video on it, and that looks great. I'm content with that for now.

I too have a doujindance duo-r with RGB mod. I haven't had any issues but after looking inside he used some nasty brown glue on everything making it very difficult to redo should the need arise. I echo the comments of others to get on from either turbokon or Keith courage.

PunkCryborg

Yeah but Doujin is the only one offering RGB modded Duo-r's regularly. I'm pretty sure Turbokon is just doing component.

CGQuarterly

I guess I'm the only one here who is perfectly happy with his doujindance unit.  Of course, I bought it several years ago and paid a lot less than what he charges now.

Yeah that brown gunk sucks. Makes it extremely difficult to do anything if those wires every go bad. I've worked on many of his units after the fact.

I got mine from him for $220 shipped in january 2011. It's held up well and the only issue is the RGB amp isn't as good as some of the newer ones from like Broken but still looks boss. He's also pretty helpful and has a youtube channel with repair tips and offers advice. I've chatted with him a couple times on FB in the past and he's a pretty nice guy

A few years ago I had bought a Duo and a CoreGrafx system off of that guy.

That PC Engine Duo gave me problems from day 1. Add to the fact that he insisted that using a Genesis 2 power supply would be just fine. That's what he provided me with.

The CoreGrafx also had problems. It looked like shit when I got it. Looked like it had been kicked to the curb a couple times.
And white screen right off the bat.

The whole experience put me right off from ever purchasing stuff from that guy.

Is that not OK?  The only difference between a Genesis 2 PS and the PS that he sent me was that the Genny PS only outputs a maximum of like 0.8 amps while the other one does 1.2A.  I don't know what a stock Duo-R PS is rated for, though.

Edit: I just looked it up and the Duo-R PS is supposed to be 9V, 1A.

Bloufo

^^
Not enough juice to run the whole thing for a sustained period of time. I tell ya the system got very hot (not warm but hot) with that Genny 2 PS.
A little time after that I decided to order a Duo compatible PS from Retro Game Cave. Problem solved as far as that was concerned.

There's a good chance it'll be fine. :3

my duo r from doujindance has been fine since i got it a couple of years ago - i use the PS1 Slim power supply - never had a problem with it - I've never opened it up so I'm sure its the same or similar to everyone else's as far the brown gunk goes - guess i will find out someday - anything i get moving forward will be from this forum - i bought a very nice briefcase unit from Keith Courage here - very nice work!

mikespit1

Thanks for the replies all. Sent kc and turbo Pms so hopefully I hear back

escarioth

ok ..so all the fuss i had last year about that s-video being shit on my PCE-duo R from doujindance...i was right !? i throwed a couples of emails about his s-video looking like total crap...even losing colors.. and he kept telling me my TV was the problem because at his place everything worked fine.

At least my RGB setup saved the day in the end but the s-video is a no-no situation.
