Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

PURPOSE OF THREAD: TG-16/PCE observations.

EXHIBIT 1:

 IMG

BOX ART: I love Ninja Spirit, but when did ninjas start using 10" TABLE SAW BLADES? At least Velcro is keeping the blade firmly fastened to his quadriceps.

NOTE: No comment concerning the strap-on-katana our hero is brandishing.

Ryu Hayabusa's from Ninja Gayden you n00b!

Now that I think about it, what is your dude's name in Ninja Spirit?  Isn't it Hayate or something?

Don't even get me started about that ethernet cable. It, too, is velcroed to his thigh.

:)

Only Hayabusa would be fortunate enough to get his own TV show, though.

Yeah, Joe Musashi had all those copyright shenanigans against him over Godzilla, Spider Man, Rambo, etc. so he can't show his face on TV anymore. Lol

My favorite thing about the cover of this game is that it's essentially the same as the JP covert except stupider. This cover specifically, IMO, lends a lot of cred to the theory that TG16 games have such terrible covers because they lost any good copies of the original art somewhere between the US and JP releases.

IMG

Why American publishers could never manage to hire an illustrator that knew WTF he was doing in the world of video games is beyond me. There were plenty of guys in the U.S. that could draw a a ninja in 1990. There was absolutely no shortage of ninja skill back then. That was right when all the indie comic publishers were trying to successfully clone Ninja Turtles, there were ninjas in Wolverine comics, The Fat Ninja was pretty cool, Tales of Ninja Warriors was a great ninja anthology series I really liked. Ninjas all over the place. Somehow we ended up with this crappy airbrush garbage and shuriken the size of pizzas.

Haahhahahhhahaa. Yeah, it boggles the mind. But TG-16 was only the latest in a long line of consoles to feature lame artwork. Everybody was doing it. I know, I know--this doesn't excuse the lame art. SOMEONE at these corporations should have known better.

OK, I am violating my earlier declaration. Behold:

 IMG

NOTE: Apparently, the artist for the TG-16 cover had different ideas about how a man holds his "katana". That said, both Japanese and Americanese ninjas take their katanas very seriously. Notice how firmly they are fondling the hilt of the sword?

you made me look at some of the covers with a different perspective now.    :D
Not quite as ridiculous as the "pizza sized saw blade", but I never noticed...

EXHIBIT 2b(?)  This just makes me laugh that later releases didn't even bother with making suggestions for other games to try on the back of the manual.

I remember as a kid, my friends dad saw Ninja Spirits artwork, & asked what the creature in the middle of it was.  I said it was a wolf, & he said "that doesn't look like any kind of wolf I'VE ever seen!" :D

Good eye! There was one blogger who investigated this...
http://www.nathanieledwards.com/2012/05/beach-boys-cartoon-and-video-game-camp.html
(I love this dude because he is as ridiculously curious about trivial stuff as I am...but we are approaching it from different angles...I want to know about all-things-turbo, no matter how tangentially related...I posted a comment, but he never approved it, so I fear his blog is not a priority any longer...)

THE ONLY NEW, UNIQUE SONG:UPDATE: OOPS, HOW COULD I FORGET THIS RAP SONG ABOUT LIL BRO?All the other songs are covers. The music in the actual Camp California (SCD) game is much better than this.

EXHIBIT 2: Look at SCREAM'R's pink shirt+yellow star...they added the logo to the TG-16 cover!

Oh my, that is just sad. If it was left out inadvertently, it is still sad. Forgotten Worlds was released when a lot of games were being published, so this is probably a mistake. OOOOPS!

It would be great if folks looked at the last few releases to see what games TTi was suggesting...

ALSO, I wonder if there are any games that were NEVER recommended (besides third-party releases)...

I always thought that this was a much better way to promote games...it would have been neat if NEC/TTi had started this sooner.

Can you quickly glance them over and share the TURBO POINT VALUES for each game? Just go back and edit your original post so :)

You know why I am asking this? Yeah, that's right, because I want to document as much as I possibly can about the TURBO2 TEAM CLUB: https://archives.tg-16.com/duo_world_0003.htm#t2_team_club

Hell yes.

Dragon Slayer, Dynastic, SimEarth, and Lords are all 5pts.  Others were 4

Another question...How did they decide which CD games got branded with CD vs. 16?

Thanks for the point values :)

As for the "16" vs. "CD"...I think they just were bad at being consistent.

But, a thorough investigation is required to see what they really did. :)

White trays got '16' and black trays got 'CD'.  :---)
