Graphically, not quite as good as it could have been...

I guess there's always room for improvement, but that's definitely not a typical criticism of Dracula X.

It's always entertaining to read Western articles from bitd and see how most of it was made up on the fly based off scraps of info and rumors.

Especially the whole "8-bit" nonsense, when they get extra spazzy and make it all the way to pretty much saying "it's so unbelieveable! It's almost as though bits aren't an accurate measure for ranking video game generations!" Yet still don't put two and two together.

Too bad NEC couldn't replace the highly flawed original operating system sooner, so impressive titles like Spriggan, Download 2, Macross 2036, etc could have made the CD-ROM worthwhile.

Hardcore Otaking... I'd love to see the CVG feature if you get time to scan it one day. I still have all of my copies of EDGE but not a single issue of CVG.

On a somewhat related note, the release dates page in the original post you linked back to appears to be announcing a HuCard version of Hellfire. I remember this vividly from the time the magazine was published as the CD version of Hellfire was already more than two years old by then, which made no sense at all. I never saw or heard any mention of it elsewhere at the time or after. I've always assumed it was an error, some crossed wires somewhere that lead to it ending up in that list, but it would be interesting to hear if anyone has any insight on this at all, rumours or otherwise.

EDGE was something pretty special back then. I feel like they pioneered a more adult approach to gaming magazines in general (not to take anything away from the personality of CVG & Mean Machines). Around the same period, EDGE also did a very similar article on arcade PCBs and the 'Supergun' (Did Raven Games originally come up with that name btw?).

And how awesome was Super Play magazine back then too!? Good times.

I guess I missed this issue the first time it was printed.  Only mistake I can see is bomberman should be 2Mbit not 4.  I kinda agree with the Drac X review tho.  I was blown away with the SNES version mainly for the sound and the playability of the gameplay especially with the chain despite having a much slower pace.  PCE version felt like a step back with the gameplay..  mind you I never played much of the earlier NES games mostly because the Master System dominated the UK for many years.

Edge magazine is a UK magazine, they referred themselves as ' the industry journal' due to professional and adult approach of video game journalism, I note that the US version was called ' Next Gen' whether it was a badly edited version of edge or if it was still in existence is another thing

it's noted that cross Atlantic media, are usually not successful in journalism, music, movies, etc..
