In 2017, the PC Engine will be 30 years old. To celebrate this event, I hope to gather stories, photos and memories of the PC Engine and/or TurboGrafx-16 from the community and compile them into a free book that anyone can view online or download and print.

This book will be a community project, written by us, for us.

I'm looking for virtually anything you have to say about the PC Engine, which can include:
When you first saw a PCE/TG.
General memories, events (serious, funny, happy or sad) concerning the PCE/TG.
Stories about the PCE/TG (real or fictional is OK!)
PCE/TG related artwork you want to share.
Photos of you, your setup, you playing, or just being silly with your PCE/TG.
Anything else PCE/TG related that you can think of!

You can send any content or enquiries to me at paul[at]pcengine.co.uk or message me on the forums here (If you have large/many images then I suggest using a service such as wetransfer.com)

If you are contributing, when you send information, please let me know the name or handle which you would like to be credited as and a photo of you (or something to represent yourself) that I can use as an avatar of sorts with your comments.

LET'S MAKE THIS AN EPIC BOOK WORTHY OF THE PCE!

Oh man, this is going to be so damn cool!!

I expect hair-dryer stories to be submitted!

geise

LOL.  Man Bernie, it's never going away.  This is awesome paul.  Now do you have a Tatsujin to english translator if he is going to add anything?  Probably not though.  FB has sucked the life out of him.

SplatterTrigger

This is going to be amazing. I plan on contributing Paul!

You may just want to translate La Bible PC Engine from french to english  8)

This is rad! Definitely will contribute

blueraven

Will definitely be sending something about the repair threads and walkthroughs, and the Folklore that the community has created, through memes, modifications, raffles, chat, etc.

I can either do an academic analysis of these things, or make it totally informal. Maybe a bit of both.

Gredler

I would love to help in any way I can, thanks for doing this!!

Anything and everything is good. A lot of the book would be informal, almost like a collection of forum posts showing a range of opinions and experiences, so anything deeper would also provide a welcome variety.

ParanoiaDragon

Man, at least right now(getting sleepy), I wouldn't know where to begin...

This is fantastic, I would love to contribute as well

Off topic but this is the kind of thing I would be interested in. I could easily translate from French to English. Where can I find a pdf or physical version of this book?

Sarumaru

Oh god. When I first saw this post I got so excited and piddled. I'd like to contribute in a number of ways. Mainly with artwork though and a story perhaps.  :D

Elder

This is awesome.  I'd love to contribute in any way possible :)

That would be very cool.

CrackTiger

ParanoiaDragon could fill a book on his own.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

BigusSchmuck

Awesome, I can definitely contribute from the olden days of discovering Riggs from the early 2000s and my first Turbo experience in the early 90s..

Eh, maybe a pamphlet.  I do have a lot of mundane(to the public) memories from growing up with the Turbob aside from the few stories of interaction with TTI & WD.  Even those however, aren't gonna be 100% accurate memories, wish I recorded it all!

Sarumaru

Is the book gonna mention Indies and such like implode, atlantean, mysterious fish and stuffs like that?  :)

That depends on what people contribute.

Basically, my view of the book is quite casual - almost like a series of printed forum posts where people can say what they like, as long as it relates to the PCE. I'd like the focus to be on personal writings or creations, so although there is room for 'A History of <something>' I think it would be nice if the bulk of it consists of personal stories, feelings about the system and games etc.

But I'm not going to try to steer this too much in any direction. Think of it as something we are all making as a tribute to the PC Engine. I'm just here to edit it and slap it all together.

_Paul

I shall be bumping this thread every now and again because it's very easy for people to forget after a while :)

JoshTurboTrollX

This is wonderful Paul!  Super cool!!  I will be scrapping together some things we've chatted about here and pics from MGCs and other meetups to submit to you for this!

Digi.k

Paul when do you plan on having this completed?

I might submit some stuff particularly some art stuff if I can get off my lazy ass during this winter.

Is there a deadline for submitting work?

_Paul

If I can get most content by the end of 2016 that would be great. That's not a reason to wait that long though ;)

Bernie

I plan on getting something submitted very soon.

_Paul

Progress update and reminder to all.

esteban

Ok. I have to contribute something.

The problem is that I haven't figured it out what I will do yet.

In my defense, I just learned about this 15 seconds ago. :)

I'm starting to play around with ideas for the layout of the book. I'm thinking of arranging it sort of like instant messages or forum posts to keep it informal.

I think that is a great format to use.

Why?

Because I think that it fits perfectly with "community"... Especially if I just go back and recycle some old posts.

Ha!

Also, I want my brothers to do something. At least one of them should be able to get something finished by 2017.

:)

_Paul

Yep, I want the kind of feel to it that it's like forum posts - more personal than just reviews or articles.

DesmondThe3rd

Cool, I'll see if I can sent a bit of junk to help.

_Paul

Awesome.  I've had the first few submissions in now, but I still need YOURS. Yes YOU, the one reading this now.

Send, photos, pictures, drawings or write about your PCE TG memories.

Or even fan fiction (keep it clean)!

Excellent.  I will finally have an audience for my Blodia/Timeball fan fiction.

I would love to read that.

Seriously.

Paul,  This is incredibly cool!!  I would love to contribute something!  How are the submissions so far?  More than enough?  Not enough?  Just right?

What kind of timetable are you looking at for getting these in?

I'm kind of strapped for time with other things (life, projects), but would LOVE to contribute and will try in my spare time.  If it takes me a few months to submit something will I be too late?

Thank you,

Never enough submissions!

Then, even if you have submissions, there might be varying levels of "quality"...

That sort of thing...

Start today and maybe you won't end up doing something the night before the deadline.

:)

I've seen this thread a while now and my thought was submitting something around say the Ys IV translation project. Go through some history on its origins, the ups/downs, setbacks, glorious progress, heck, a lot of material I already wrote in the Ys IV ReadMe, just would need to be summarized, updated further for the dubbing aspect and what not. Problem is I dunno how fast you're moving and I'm not quite in the mood for something like this just yet... :/

_Paul

My current plan would be to release it on the 30th October 2017, the PCE's birthday.

That gives us lots and lots of time to prepare. I will try to keep pushing things regularly though because it's easy for people to forget and then months go by.

I have only a few submissions so far. I would like a lot more because I hop this can be a kind of document that the community can look back on in a few years and be able to read people's memories and experiences without having to fish around in old forums.

Anyway, I'll say the deadline is...May 2017?

Fantastic!!! Love it. I'll have to share my "First time" experience with TG16 and the path that landed myself here with this awesome community. Thank you for suggesting and working on this!

did a really really rough sketch today most of it was from memory.. not sure how it's going to end up but it's a start.

Great stuff! I'd love to encourage more fan art. Anyone want to make a PCE sculpture? :)

Ok, I'm an idiot!  It took me several seconds to realize it wasn't Last Armageddon.  I concentrated on the monsters, but then thought, that guy doesn't look like anyone from.....doh, that's Richter!

Bump to remind people of this project.

I'm going to say a primary deadline for this is the end of October this year. At that stage I can see if there is enough content to be worth continuing. If there is, then I'll take more over the few months after to fill things out.
