I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Hello all, a new member here in a bit of a panic. (not really but lets be dramatic, ok?) I have a duo on its way and tracking shows it should be here tomorrow. My issue is for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get a copy of Dracula X to burn using ImgBurn. ](*,) I have downloaded two different copys of the game, one an ISO file and the other a .Bin and when I try to burn an image both give me an "invalid or unsupported image file format!" error. (the ! lets me know they are serious) I have never used ImgBurn before so in all honesty I could be doing some really stupid and missing the obvious in my haste to get this burn and ready to play tomorrow. Any pointers on how to get this burnt and save my Friday night gaming extravaganza would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help!

CrackTiger

Are you opening the "cue" file?
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Download TurboRip.  Mount any image you get from the net to a virtual drive on your PC then check it with TurboRip to make sure it's legit.  I believe TurboRip will even put the correct TOC in for ya.

You can thank the all mighty Nightwolve for the TurboRip program.

Also if you keep having issues you can get my 1:1 rip of my legit copy I put on Dropbox.

CrackTiger, I right clicked cue, selected open with ImgBurn and it appeared to work correctly. I guess I will find out tomorrow. I was trying to burn right from the image, thanks for the tip.

tbone3969, Thanks for the TurboRip link this looks like a great tool, and thank you for the rip offer if this copy does not work I will take you up on it.

You guys have been very helpful, I think I am going to like the TG-16/PC-E community!

Usually someone will rip you a new asshole when your first post is a WAREZ question best answered on a torrent forum. You dodged a bullet! :)

Well, TurboRip's not gonna help if he downloaded some crappy ISO/MP3/CUE archive (TOC Fixer would be needed in that case). It's simply meant for people with original CDs to easily rip/convert them to ISO/WAV/CUE image file sets, or to specialized ISO/MP3/TOC file sets used by the emulator on Sony's PSP portable, or the XBOX's HugoX emulator.

But yeah, it effectively can be used as a TOC verification test if you mount the CUE file, try to rip from the virtual drive, and it properly detects a full PCE or TG-16 title. That serves as an indicator that the TOC is proper. An emulator detecting a title also serves the same test as we're using the same TOC database.

Anyway, looks like his problem was solved, he tried to burn the image with the BIN file instead of the CUE as you're supposed to. If you see a CUE file in any image file set, always use the CUE file for any operation, disc burning or mounting for a virtual CD/DVD drive, etc.

SignOfZeta, Haha I was half expecting to be told to kick rocks . I joined these forums a few weeks ago and have been reading a lot of old posts trying to Figure things out on my own but could not figure this out. I am glad people here were nice enough to help with such a stupid mistake I was making.

NightWolf, I have read some of your posts on here and looked through your website and, WOW! Do you ever play these games or just spend all of your free time making it so other people can? I cant imagine all the work that goes into translating a game let alone an RPG.

NightWolve

Oh, honestly, I'm not interested in ever trying to make a game - know your limits... Yes, game development would suck away your time at an incredible level, far more than just trying to hack English text into already existing great games made by professional companies!

I haven't started fan translation projects in many years actually, Emerald Dragon is the first one since 2007 (Felghana and Ys Origin) and I didn't even start it, my friend David did, I just took it over and got text recompression and insertion working based on his old 2004 code for Ys IV (a project we worked together on as well!). Although, there was a blip of work in 2012 to finish off the dubbing for Ys IV with another guy who recruited voice-actors. That I consider just finishing off Ys IV, not a new project.

I pretty much had to take a long break from that stuff since I did it irresponsibly from 2002-2007 and I got burned by most of the other fan translators I ever worked with (see my boycott xseed sig link below, heh)... You're right though in one way, fan translation work in my early years was another reason I wouldn't get to play much games. It did have that effect. Hacking Ys games was much more interesting to me (and fully time consuming) than knocking off games from my long backlog of PS1/PS2 originals I still buy over the years... But there are other reasons that go further back as to why I don't commit my free time as much to sitting down and beating games.

Put the disk in by duo and it fired right up! I'm so excited to play, I think I am weirding out my kids hahaha.

NightWolve

Wasn't so hard, was it ? ;)

Macab0ne

Not at all once I realized what file to burn. :-) I am loving playing these older games. One of my kids who is 8 years old said that it looked real hard to play. Haha
