Started at $20 and some retards ran it up over $200.....  da fuq is wrong with people?!?  At least the seller was honest about what it is and where it came from, and it only took a couple minutes of googling for me to find their page (though shame on them for requiring people to sign in to see anything at all).

true about the honesty, I guess.  But anybody that would even THINK it's not a repro deserves to be parted with their money.  lol

If only we had veto power.

I know we never could, but I would love to simply VOID silly auctions.

So is this approved by turbokon and thesteve? I think its time for me to place a bulk order for some of these and make some $$$!

For those justifying the guy who sold it look at all his other listings.. he didn't make any of his other sales auctions they were all Buy It Now so he could have easily sold it at the same price he paid. He obviously knew he was going to get more than what he paid for it.

NightWolve

Says his collection has got to go, it must be sold off, yet, this is the only PCE-related item you can find in his past sales history... The problem is if you're steve/turbokon/jodi, you're getting a little jealous/irritated that you're selling these at a fixed rate, there's still a supply, and yet this guy flipped it for 3.5/4 times the value, so you're almost tempted to just put up auctions yourself rather than do straight sales on the Facebook group only for vultures to come by for flipping...

Yup, and I have a feeling there will be more to follow.

Therein lies the key problem with this hobby now.  You really can't sell anything cheap anymore.  If you offer something at a good price there's a good chance someone will flip it.  Too many greedy vultures these days.  It's not a hobby anymore, it's a business.  When I saw someone use the term "Professional Collector" on Facebook I knew the hobby was done.

For $220 I would expect an energy drink to be bundled as well.

that just made me vomit

ginoscope

Yeah even though the seller offered it low he could have just as easily sold it from where he got it at the same cost.  He must have known that the cost would have ended really high.  The buyers are morons for not knowing what they are buying.  It's sad but it's the state of the hobby at this time.

NecroPhile

Pointing out the seller's honesty is hardly justifying his actions, but whatever.  I'm well known for approving of sellers taking advantage of naive buyers.

Answer, it's simple, on each repro print the price and web address on where it can be bought. problem solved.
Then after that, anyone that pays a premium price if it's resold on eBay or whatever is so dumb they deserve to lose money.

Sadly, this was bound to happen.

Opportunists and idiots are everywhere.

Selfish people suck. And money really does corrupt things faster than the "normal" rate of corruption (think of it as a multiplier). I wish it weren't true, but it does.

Except that flippers will never show that part in the photos.

Hopefully turbokon and co are looking through their transactions to see who it is from Milford, Ohio.

If the flipper/seller purposefully doesn't show the original price info in the listing photos and then when the buyer recieves the item and sees the original price printed on the item they will be super pissed (I would asume) and at the very least leave neg feedback and open a eBay claim. I would of thought the thought of that would deter a lot of sellers planning to flip it for profit.

Plus you could put the price prominently on the front of the box, instructions and hucard.
design it so it still looks good and doesn't spoil the aesthetics, but the price is there plain to see.

The box insert and instructions are homemade. I'm surprised that this guy bothered to include the box instead of a recycled HuCard case.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. You don't have any recourse for paying too much for something and people foolish enough to bid on one of these now without googling, isn't going to type out a url. The most it will do is increase sales both from people who make it to the turbokon site to buy more and for the flippers who are likely already asking to buy stacks of Magical Chase.

I disagree, I think my suggestion is the solution to the problem.

Yes there is a very, very small percentage of people who just won't care if they've paid a huge mark up from a flipper. They deserve to be ripped off anyways.

But the vast, vast majority of people would be super pissed if they paid $220 and then looked at the hucard and realised the seller at flipped a readily available item that costs $45 new.

It should even say on the hucard "if you have paid more than $45 for this you have been ripped off, demand a refund and then come and buy one new from www.tg16pcemods.com"
I'm positive if it said that on the hucard flipping would be a very rare occurrence.

I agree with BT. Gougers would just Photoshop that out, and the victim has no recourse on eBay. The seller listed it below what it currently retails, so it's on the bidder if you bid a stupid ass amount without doing research.

As a seller, it's not my responsibility to inform you on what the current retail price of an item is, especially if I'm listing it at half that. If the buyer left negative feedback, you could have it reversed.

If the seller listed it as a BIN for $200, you would have more of a case, but still it's on the stupidity of the buyer.

Someone archive the ebay page so I can refer to it when someone asks what 'collectard' means.

Agreed.  They'll assume it's out of print and bid big monies anyway.

Tobias's shit is a similar situation: "pce works" is prominently shown on the packaging and his site is the first result when googled, yet there's no shortage of morons paying twice what he charges for Dracula X.

I can't remember if I've asked this before, but what is this hobby to you guys? To me it's about playing games I grew up with, learning things I never knew about the systems I grew up with and occasionally kicking it with people who enjoy the same (side note: we should kick it again! :D ). People spending lots on a repro or anything else, calling themselves a professional collector or whatever just doesn't factor into the equation. I just don't care. Maybe I'd care more if I was on the FB groups. :) I just want to get all nostalgic and nerd out with folks that actually know what the TG16 is.

Vimtoman

Reprints of Cd's and repro's of hucards from this forum are bound to filter out and be sold online.

Whats all the fuss?

If it's such an issue then they should not be offered here.

It's the only way to stay squeaky clean. :-&

Well I guess I should say it's not necessarily the hobby that's getting bad (except in terms of higher prices) but more the way that many newer folks in the community are acting.  To me it's always about getting to play/replay fun games when I can.  The goal is not always collecting, but having a library of titles that I want to play and enjoy.

Obviously I could just use CDRs and Everdrives for the whole thing and never need to "collect" anything but I suppose there's a fun aspect to being able to look through what I've got and decide on what to play for the evening and go from there instead of just scrolling through a ROM list.  I can't say I'm not a collector (or collectard) as well either, who else out there has a complete Pico collection.  But seeing the "professional collector" makes me envision a profiteer with no desire to even enjoy the games, just collect them and put them on shelves.

Yeah, fair enough. As you know, I'm all about having original stuff. I love fondling boxes, reading manuals, etc. :D I guess I mostly feel that way about TG16 stuff though, so I'm not too upset if I'll never afford all the SNES (or whatever) games I wish I had. I feel like, to me, the larger enjoyment is stuff I listed above. Those Atari games for the TG16 someone posted youtube vids of a few weeks ago far outweighs my inability to find Contra III for a reasonable price. :D

As for the pic, someone get that man a phone charger quick!
