Just a reminder folks, the TED v2 is on sale today for approx $68 (bare board).

This is the latest version 2.5 that most of us original purchasers don't have, and it's *supposed* to have some new components on the board to stabilize its power supply and make it a bit less susceptible to the issues that some folks had with the older boards.

I sent a question to KRIKKzz's store, and apparently the USB option (that used to cost and extra $20) is now included as standard.

That option alone makes it a must-buy for anyone doing (or wanting to do) homebrew development, because it allows you to instantly squirt your ROM down to the card from your PC and see it run.

It will also be useful at some point for copy game saves from the backup RAM directly to your PC.

20% off store-wide, good time to pick up an Everdrive for any system.  :)

There are systems other than the PC Engine/TurboGrafx???

Blasphemy!!!  Stone the intruder!!!

Oh man, I should.  Spend the 5 bucks on the shell there?  Or is there a better one?  We had some 3D printed ones going here for a while, I remember.

IF they're coming with USB ports attached now (as the guy on KRIKzz's store said), then most of the old v2 shells won't work.

It's interesting to see that the simple & cheap shell on KRIKzz's own store does look like it would work.

Anyway ... I pulled-the-plug on another one myself, but without the shell. I'm trying stoneagegamer this time so that it's a USA seller if something goes wrong.

I didn't realise the new TED had 4MB of RAM onboard! Wow! That makes the original look positively rubbish in comparison.

That absolutely tons of room for translations, extra code, graphics.... brilliant. I reckon I can make use of some of that in the future (have an idea for a couple of SCD translations next) ....

I think I have to get myself one. I'll justify it by passing on my TED 1 to the PCE, while the Duo gets the TED 2

I was planning on it this year, but got a deal on N64 games that was significantly better than the % off on the ED but combined with other stuff tanked my fun time fundage. Definitely getting one though, may wait for the sale next year, but I'll probably just get one before that since it's not a huge deal or anything.

Oh ... cr*p!

They sent me a follow-up email saying that they actually do NOT have the USB port anymore.

I don't know if that means that they'll never have them again, or not, but that makes it pretty-much useless to me for development, so I'm going to cancel my order.

Note ... it can still be used for development by swapping the SD card in-and-out, but that's a huge PITA.

Can you not just solder the usb connector on?

Thats all thats missing

Nope, there's also the FT245R USB-FIFO chip.

And he *may* have also dropped the decoupling caps that aren't needed if the FT254R isn't installed.

Possibly ... but not well. And when it comes to the FIFO chip ... I've got no chance at all!

I tell you ... getting older really sucks, and I'm not *that* effing old!  :-({|=

***************

As it is ... I may just end up getting the Black Friday deal, and then trying to do a swap/upgrade with someone that has a v2.4 with USB that doesn't really need the USB.

Not sure how-on-earth else to get a USB-enabled TED v2 to have as a backup in case mine dies.

And it would sure be nice to be able to test both the DUO and the SuperGrafx/SuperCDROM at the same time with 2 TED cards when it comes to the fast CD library.

Unfortunately (ok, not unfortunately.. I still <3 it) I bought the 2.5 TED a month or two ago already at full price.   But  this Krikzz sale definitely put the hit on the pocketbook as I snaked a handful more flashcarts for various systems that I was on the fence about before. Guess if there was a time to bite, that was it.

The IC above the switch? I could solder that on for you and add the connector.
I'm in the UK.

Thank you so much for the offer, it's very much appreciated, and I may well take you up on it!  :D

I've asked KRIKzz's staff whether it would even be technically possible to do that hack (it may be something that they changed in the FPGA, too), and I've also asked if it's possible to special-order a bunch of cards with the USB option included, just to see what that would cost (if possible).

There are so few people here interested in development that I suspect that it would be hard to come up with enough to meet a minimum-order, but I can always fantasize!

KRIKzz really should have encouraged developers to use the USB (IMHO) if he really wanted regular--gamers to see the value in paying the extra cash for the USB option.

From my POV, it's a developer's dream-card ... but I totally understand that until folks like me actually do something useful with the extra hardware, it's just costly dead-weight to folks that just want to play games.

I picked up the 2.5 as well on Friday.  I'm finally happy to be able to upgrade from the old NeoFlash.
