Dang, it's hard to remember that far back.

But Keith Courage was definitely first, since it came with the system.
Then it was probably Legendary Axe and most likely Neutopia.

Vimtoman

Rtype when it first came out.

TR0N

Most i can remember when i did in the early 90's.

Keith Courage
Bonks Adventure
Valis II

It was through a friend first which lead me to getting a TG16 asap.

Thanks for all the great responses, reading through them it seems like the majority got their start with the hucard titles. I have played a few hucards: Splatterhouse, Download, and Bonk's Adventure, come to mind, but for the most part I have always been a CD/SCD connoisseur, with a preference on Japanese RPG's e.g. Cosmic Fantasy IV, Ys IV, Tengai Makyo series, Star Breaker.
If you don't like how things are, change it!  You're not a tree!!!!

This is a tough one...

Keith Courage for sure, as it was the pack-in. But after that, I don't know. We had a rental place in my hometown and I'm almost certain I rented a few games before I was able to buy any new ones. The nearest store that sold Turbo games two hours away. So I think my first rentals were Victory Run and Blazing Lazers. Maybe JJ & Jeff and Dungeon Explorer, too. I'm not sure...

I didn't get to play CD games until the Duo came out.

My first three were Keith Courage, R-Type and Bloody Wolf in 1990.

Keith Courage was *alright*, but for a pack-in, at the time, I thought Altered Beast seemed much more impressive and "badass" (not to mention it was a recognizable title virtually every kid knew from the arcades).  I still say, to this day, if they would have just completely axed all the overworld stages and used the extra ROM space to add more backgrounds/enemies/frames/power-ups and general variety to the underworld stages, Keith Courage would have been killer.  I mean, it controls just fine and the hit detection seems tight... there's just no variety or cohesiveness.  It could have been more like the platforming and hack n' slash elements of Rocket Knight, if they'd have done it right.  If the first thing kids saw when they fired up the game was some badass looking red, white and blue samurai-ish mech running around hacking and slashing, and the game was good, it would have pushed systems... but it wasn't.  And it didn't.  Fuckin Hudson...

Bloody Wolf and R-Type blew me away, however.  I had no prior knowledge of either game or even what genre they were until the Christmas unwrapping and saw the boxes.  I think my immediate mental reaction, after looking at the reverse of the boxes was, "Ohhhh!  THOOOOSE kinds of games... awwww yea!"

Made a mistake on my first 3 list before, actually it was:

1. Strider Super Grafx

2. Dracula X Special HuCard

3. RPC Genjin

I hope you're talking about the Danzig-led Misfits! I dislike the Jerry Only version that's around today — the Shitfits, as I call them. And even if Danzig returned, they're all too old for me to pay attention. But man, how they dominated punk in the early 80s!

  • Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo
  • Bomberman '94
What a great start!
Thanks! I like all three, though I still prefer the Sonic and Mario "mascot" games to PC Genjin. But PC Genjin is a solid introduction to the system because of the bold graphics and colors. I can't say I'm a fan of the music though!

Actually I was referring to the 1946 film serial The Crimson Ghost... I kid... Danzig misfits for sure.

exodus

First was Keith Courage on a friend's machine.
2nd was proooobably legendary axe, but I'm uncertain. I know I had a TG-16 for a while before a duo, but maybe it wasn't that long, because the biggest memory for me was definitely the gate of thunder pack-in and Ys books 1&2.

hard to get it sorted in my head because it was probably 1993?

Corredor X

Bomberman, Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier, in that order.

csgx1

I got my Turbo for Xmas of 1990.  This is interesting for me because I can't remember the first 3 games I played for any system (and I've had every nintendo, most sega, Playstation etc) other than the Turbografx.  Those were (in order played):

1.  Splatterhouse
2.  KC (obligatory... hated it then, hate it now)
3.  Legendary Axe (rental)

I got lucky when my mom bought me and little brother my spoiled cousins TG-16 with 5 or so games. The first 3 I remember playing we're Galaga 90, Bonks Adventure and Bloody Wolf.  Im 100% about Galaga being the one I played the most that first couple of weeks on my little 13 inch black and white tv.  I didn't really get a chance to appreciate all the nice colors that most games had for a while(I was even more enthralled with it then)  A few years down the road I found a couple of games at his house visiting my great aunt.  I found one of the legendary axes and Bonks Revenge.  Godbless my mom buying that for us as we only had a nes and smb/rad racer which we're fun but didn't exactly get me into gaming like the TG-16 did. Years later im still still playing the good stuff.  Ohh I never made a tread to introduce myself but my name is Sam.  I've been lurking for a bit and recently had some systems fixed/modded so im really happy to be here on a forum for all the PC Engine/TG-16 stuff.   :D
"If I took this cigarette and put it out on you would you love me"

Medic_wheat

Bonks Adevture (cousins home in Dallas TX when I was maybe 12?)

Then in 2011-2012? When I got my TG-16 from a garage sale it had the following games which I picked up. Sigh back when people didn't care about the the TG-16. Guy sold the core system for $25 and $5 a game.

Splatterhouse
First two Bonk games
A racing game
That battle tennise game
Ninja Spirit
Dungeon Explorer
Blazing Lasers
Bloody Wolf

I couldn't say which of these games was my second and third game ever played. If I had to guess?  Ninja sprit and bloody wolf.

Welcome, comrade. :)

If you like Rad Racer (I do), then grab Victory Road, which cranks up the challenge with a parts management mechanic.

Also, the Space Invaders HuCARD (the special mode) is a lot of fun if you like classics (Galaga).

:)

Bonks Adventure, King of Casino, Keith Courage and Takin it to the Hoop came with the Turbografx 16 me and my dad exchanged for a NES with around 20 games to a street vendor at Coney Island. Back in the day there were a lot of second hand shoppes across the street from the amusement park.
