Greetings. New member, long time TG16/PCE fan.
I opened a TurboGrafx 16 I own this weekend to do an RGB mod. I have owned this unit for a few years, bought it used.
Anyway, I seen some work had been done previously and am personally unfamiliar with these modifications. I am not an electrician by any means, but have basic wiring and soldering skills as I work as a manufacturing engineer.
Please see the included photos.
Any help is much appreciated.
I have uploaded the image to Imgur.

Honestly, I don't know. However if you are doing and RGB mod this shouldn't interfere with it. They took the +5 from video and sent to whatever that circuit is it's going to. Perhaps this is an Everdrive compatibility hack?

I do have an Everdrive, however I purchased this system long before the Everdrive existed, so couldnt have been that. The system works otherwise. Thanks for the help.

Maybe it's power for the RGB amp?

This reminds me of a mod you had to do to get one of those hucard adapters to work on your PC Engine. (The "purple barney" type) but IIRC the wire mod wasn't needed on US systems.

Honestly I'm not sure if this is it, just throwing it out there.

EDIT: After looking at the pic closer, its definitely not what I was referring to, disregard above comment  :P

Wire looks to be connected to pin 2.  The pinout i found labels it as OSC witch I'm guessing is oscillator.  Not sure what the purpose would be.

SignOfZeta

Ah, I thought it was pin 1. Perhaps OSC is a sync source?

The chip shielding on the left picture is normal, both of my TG16 have it.

On the right picture, i don't know what this cable is for but I can see the jail bar fix has been applied (ceramic cap added on C134). There has to be one more that is out of the picture.

NecroPhile

Maybe it's just a fix for a borked trace.

Haha yes, I added in the jailbar fix. The red wire however was my concern.
I suspected it was to repair a damaged trace but wasnt entirely sure.
Thanks for all the input everyone.
