The Peace Thread

There was been lots of war going around on these forums lately and a lot of people are noticing it. Myself and others miss the better days of this forum around 1-2 years ago when we had tons of solid Turbo related discussion and all around gaming discussion as well and even just general discussion. Some people might point out some users that are disrupting these boards but I don't say we just blame them but control ourselves as well to help spread more peaceful posts on this forum. I know this all sounds fruity, but we've got to better these boards again.

I haven't noticed much. Then again I really only visit the TurboGrafx, PC Engine and Other Consoles forums.

This board is the most civilized game related board I've ever visited.

It's actually pretty sane here. I tend to not post on boards with a lot of drama simply because there's always some instigators out there just waiting to flame somebody at a moments notice.

There have? Since I joined over a year ago I've seen 3 heated battles, agruments thats were quite stupid to talk about now. But really, did I miss something important this summer? Any more fights?

Well, it cerainly can't hurt to sow the seeds for peace, love and harmony, so I don't see anything out-of-place with Keanu's original post.

Now, of course, I can't wait to catch-up on the threads with all of the drama

When a forum starts showing signs of increased friction, it's because the forum's userbase is becoming diverse due to the forum growing in popularity. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when this starts to happen, more people need to be on the alert with moderator status to keep things in line.

I think it could be because there isn't much to talk about here anymore. Pretty much nothing's happened to the PCE in many many years, and you can't discuss the same old stuff forever.

Aside from outright spam, or really really aggressive trolling (like posting porn pics, or other much nastier stuff) I prefer unmodded forums. Its hard to deal with some people sometimes, but if they are serious about the topic (be it PC Engine, or bicycles, or stamp collecting, or whatever) then in the end it turns out best if you don't censor people. We get enough of that crap on TV, and radio.

A while ago I sent a BBC news post to a friend who, like me, was a big fan of Macross. I said that it was a "real life Macross 7". If anyone gives a crap I'll explain it further, but I'll just assume people won't be interested. Anyway, this friend of mine posted about it on a Macross forum, and the fucker mod went and locked the topic instantly saying that it was totally off topic. Aside from overreaching (IMO) as a mod, he was also kind of...stupid, because the post was %100 on topic, and actually pretty fascinating to me. I thought it was a really cool piece of news that the Macross community would really like to know about. I'm not a member of any Macross forums, but if I was I'd be really pissed.

I agree that an unmodded forum is better. Moderators tend to be idiots, at least on bigger boards.

Sure, the spambots are annoying, but still.

No I've not seen Macross 7, kind of half-familiar with it from Newtype but I know the original better.

If you want to see tension on this board, put PCEngineHell and D-Lite in the same thread. Instant verbal violence!

Oh and just because a board is modded doesn't mean it can't be an enjoyable experience. Take a look at Toonzone where I post and you can see plenty of civil discussions with people voicing their opinions and the mods joining in most of the time.
