Hello,
I have a white CDROM2 that seems to work OK, except for a small problem:
When playing the outer tracks from an audio CD, there's a glitch that can be heard and that seems to repeat rhythmically, it does seem to be in sync with the rotation of the disk...
Is this something that can be corrected with the pots? Or is it a mechanical problem? Or maybe the laser is dying?

Also I'd like to replace, or at least acquire a spare part for my laser; I can buy a KSS-225A but I don't know if it does work in the white CDROM2.
Can  someone confirm that the -225A is a fitting replacement for the -220A?
Does it need some tweaks/adjustments for the ribbon or is it an exact drop-in replacement?
Thanks!

Is it a really really fast rhythmic sound almost like the sound is sputtering rapid fire like? Or does it almost sound like a scraping sound coming out of the speakers?

And yes a Kss-225a will work. Just might take a few tries to line up the larger of the lens ribbon cables correctly because it is slightly smaller in width.

I guess it's the first kind: A brief peak that's repeated.
Do you have an idea about what would be causing it?

if this is the sound I am thinking of then it can be fixed with potentiometer adjustment.

when looking at the potentiometers on the CD drive you will see a spot where there are two black potentiometers right next to one another and two white potentiometers next to one another. try turning the black potentiometer that is next to the white potentiometers counterclockwise slightly.

kss-162, kss-220, and kss-225. That is unless you want to get a new kss-320 and swap over the old lens ribbon cables. It's a pain in the but.

Just buy an old sony discman. Luckily they can still be found for around $20-$25 working on ebay still. make sure to get a working one.

Known models with a 162 or 220 lens are

D2
D4
D11
D12
D33
D34
