Does anyone have a complete list of US HuCards that were released without a proper case?  Here's what I have so far - please correct me where I'm wrong and tell me what I missed.

What constitutes an improper case?

nat

Games that didn't ever come in a jewel case. You know, the ones that came on that stupid plastic tray.

Thanks, nat.  I added those two to the list.

Here's some more:

Ghost Manor
Jackie Chan
New Adventure Island

Also, these I'm just guessing about based on release date coupled with the fact that my particular copies didn't come with jewel cases when I bought them used:

Darkwing Duck
Dead Moon
Shockman
Falcon

Maybe someone can confirm these last few. I actually have a sealed copy of Falcon at home, when I get home I can open it up and verify that one for sure.

One thing I do know for sure is that Night Creatures was the last HuCard game to have a jewel case.

PCEngineHell

I dont remember Darkwing Duck,Dead Moon, and Shockman having cases, just boxes and trays.

Sinistron

yet again another great reason to just collect the cards and dump those jewel boxes.  it must just feel wrong to have all those jewel cases and then a few games without them sitting there in big boxes or shitty plastic trays.

Personally, I have a template I use to create spine labels and create my own jewel cases for the ones that came caseless.

Thanks, nat and M.H.  I've added 'em to the list.

As do I.  If anyone has a few HuCard cases that they don't want - I'll give 'em a good home.

Cool. I'd love to see them and how they turn out.

Ditto here to. You guys interested in sharing the template? Id def be using it to make case labels.

guyjin

Also, Any idea where to find current CD jewel cases that are black on the outside, like TG16 cases are?

NecroPhile

My template is in .dwg format and may be useless to most on here, but I'll post it up tonight anyway.

I really wish they didn't cheap out like that.

nat

It's official.

Falcon = plastic tray-o-rama.

VestCunt

There are 21 U.S. games without cases, 22 if you count the basic CD card.
You're missing Chase HQ and Hit the Ice.
Topic Adjourned.

NecroPhile

Much thanks, VestCunt and nat.

If anyone is interested, here's the template that I use for making replacement/translated spines.

What on earth is a .dwg? looks like a file format for storing rap...  :-k

But seriously, what do you print it with?

ParanoiaDragon

Um, it looks like I need AutoCad to open it...

Joe Redifer

It opened with Adobe Illustrator but needed to be scaled up by about 12,000%.

It's the standard format for CAD programs (originated by AutoCAD), and like I said, it won't be useful to everyone.  Strangely enough, you print them with printers, or plot them with plotters if you're nitpicky.

Considering what AutoCAD costs I'd say you picked just about the most restrictive file format possible.

I made my choice based on what I knew how to use and what was available.  For some crazy reason, I didn't consider whether or not some forum members would be unable to use it ten years later.

The template I use is really just the "It Came from the Desert" back insert, available for download from the crazybanana.tk website.

The style is more in tune with the HuCard releases than the later CD releases so it works well for those carts that didn't come with cases originally. Of course, I blacked out the "CD" part of the TurboGrafx logo and removed the mention of "CD" from the back.

"It Came from the Desert" contains half the letters in the alphabet, and constructing others (L from I, N from M, etc) is pretty easy in a PhotoShop-like program.

If for some reason you don't like having the green tab on the spine you can change the color to whatever you want.

I just use generic empty CD cases you can pick up many places for like $0.25/ea, smash out the small CD retainer pins inside with a hammer and insert my fresh back insert into the case. They turn out looking pretty nice on the shelf.

That website is all kinds of awesome.

nat

Here's a pic of the most recently spine label I made using the "It Came From the Desert" backing as a template. Yes, the pic is blurry not the label itself (sorry bout that).

Clearly Joe Redifer's account has been hijacked by validus. How could he have let an admin account fall into such evil hands!

Keranu

When I bought Jackie Chan off eBay years ago, it came in a China Warrior case. Very appropriate.
Quote from: TurboXray on 01/02/2014, 09:21 PMAdding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Ha ha!  Maybe someone was confused!

ParanoiaDragon

Well, cosidering that the last boss in China Warrior, must be based off of Sam Seed(the old drunk kung fu guy in alot of Jackie's old movie's), I'd say that the China Warrior himself is possibly based off of Jackie....or maybe Bruce Lee?
IMG

Turbo D

China warrior is based off of bruce lee.

Nice story Joelidus, but you should've bought a bunch of copies of the vastly superior U.S. Power Golf.  Being released in the U.S. would automatically make 'em 69% more awesome and then you'd have the clip to help restrain the prodigious power of the mighty HuCard.

Visit the PC Engine Catalog Project, PCE Daisakusen!!, the PC Engine Bible, the Video Game Den, or Roy's Turbo Collecting Reference.  Between those five sites, you should find pics/scans of just about any game's case, box, and manual.

call me ignorant, but I don't really know what you all mean by "just trays." you mean just the CD-case-looking thing, no cardboard?

The tray is the thing you see on the right of the box in this picture.  The games on the list never came with a case.

All is well. :)

wow! no wonder all those carts up there I have loose. I had no idea. Feel kind of dumb now.
