As look over my game collection, I find my OCD tendencies bothering me for various games I have that are caseless.

I've seen in some auctions that the games were supposedly released without cases (just the card in a box?). I guess I missed out on some of this since the store I went to took them out of the boxes when they shelved them, and I don't recall buying any without a case back in the day. I think I bought mostly CD games after I got the CD attachment I guess.

Anyhow, couple of questions, is there a list of games that weren't released with cases (or if it's a shorter list, ones that did have cases)? Is there a source of any sort for generic HuCard holding cases (the grey plastic part naturally, the front part is pretty easy to replace)?

Awesome. I guess I should be glad there aren't too many of them.

Is that a no-go on generic hucard cases? I've been putting them in regular jewel cases... they usually don't move around too much.

Sparky

no, nothing that i know of, best bet is to look for loose sports games or keith courage cases or buy a few complete cheapies and gut'em.
Hmmm...the next thing ya know there will be a shortage of TV Sports Football Cases

Jitawa

Ha..

I hadn't even thought about that, great idea!

Ceti Alpha

I thought I remembered Falcon not having a case BITD. Now I know.

Nice, this is helpful.

Next time D-Lite has a sale there is bond to be a few dozen Momotaro games in there for $0.50 each. There are loads of PCE games worth less than $1, and all PCE games came with cases. I can't think off the top of my head of any that are worthless and have the later style white inlays. I prefer those. Formation Soccer on J-League can be had pretty cheap sometimes.

Although without official stickers, back inserts and such I don't really see the point in it though.

On the subject of replacement stuff, you can find nicely scanned PDF of files of some the game manuals online. This is just a matter of personal taste I guess, I'm a gamer rather than a collector, but I do like my stuff to look nice. This site:

http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php?list.18

Is a good source for some games. Print it on some double-sided semi-gloss and you have a pretty reasonable facsimile of an original manual.

Sort of a Keith Courage + non scuffed front cover from some random CD case + reprinted manual = a respectable looking former loosey-goosey HuCard

SignOfZeta

Well, rather that go through all that crap I'd rather just buy a PCE version that actually came with a case.
IMG

Sinistron

true that- but it seems that at least four of those hucards without cases came out in the US only (only one of them worth getting imo- Ghost Manor)...

Another alternative is to buy a few of the PCE games that came in double-sized cases (i.e. SFII and Populous), then swap out one of the HuCard trays for a standard disc tray, though you might have to hunt for those in white.

Not a D&D fan, eh? Darkwing isn't too bad, at least playable, but Falcon is indeed one giant turd and only worth having for a collection.

I played a little D&D back in the day (way back) - but I think a video game that isn't an oldschool Zork text adventure should have some graphics representing what's in a room instead of showing me an empty room and telling me all the stuff going on in it that I can't see. :)
It is in my collection though- maybe I'll be bored out of my f'ing skull one day and will want to play it more than the five minutes I gave it before I almost puked in my mouth.

Maybe we should all do up a bunch of jpegs with printable spine graphics.

You can make the back of a standard clear jewel case look just like a turbo one with a can of textured black paint. It looks/feels just like the real thing. With some spine labels, scans of manuals, you could make a pretty convincing case.

As for the interior, I wonder if we could ham something up that would work?

well here is a perfect time to show what sparky made up!!!! ...here we go.

just an interest check as i have made up ALL the U.S hucards spine sticker labels out there including the 21 that did not come with jewel cases which was my main reason i did this as storing them in mismatched or empty cases just sucked ass!!!!

These match up closely to the original TG16 labels in fonts, quality & colour codes... i even did the logos for Sidearms, Sonic Spike & Turrican, what your seeing here are my test sheets but when i did the final of all 94 they came out even better & i did a few sets of them (at a print shop)
Again the colours don't match perfectly, some are darker but they look very professional and have been trimmed out.

EDIT: would $15 sound reasonable for the set of 94 stickers?

That is pretty darn good. If I had bunch of loose Turbochips (I only keep complete ones), I'd definitely consider shelling out $15.

Oh My GOD! I was just thinking about how I could go about printing spine stickers after I goo-gone-d the labels off some Keith Courage cases. Hah! That's awesome. I know you say the colors are off a bit, but those seem quite good to me. Maybe you should take a picture of one next to a regular case for comparison?

It's funny, my girlfriend complains about me being obsessive about this sort of thing.

I'd buy sheets for the caseless games.
I know you're sticking to the standard color codes but make an exception for a red Air Zonk sticker to match Aero Blasters. :)

Lord Thag

Like I mentioned earlier, I'll buy a set.

Just so you all know, if you buy black, textured spray paint, you can paint the back half of a regular jeweled CD case and make it look just like the black Turbo/PCE ones. With those stickers, you can make some nice looking cases for your loose carts. That's what I plan on doing anyway :)

Lemme know when you have 'em ready for sale Sparky. Hell of a nice job!

VestCunt--> Right now im just doing them as complete sets but if i do just the 21 caseless games they will be trimmed, the print shop does machine trimming, even wielding the sharpest X-acto knife the machine does a way better job and sure beats a pair of scissors :P

Anyway thanks guys for the positive response, i am really happy with them and being a graphic designer i asure you the quality is saaweeeet!!!
Again just gauging interest & then i will make up a proper sales thread and figure out a nice ghetto/cheapy shipping rate for ya's.

EDIT: ya ok i will do up sets of the 21 caseless games all trimmed up as well for those who only need those, let me know who would be interested in them as well, but buying a whole set for $15 will be better bang for you buck :D

might bring this into the sales thread sooner.

Ceti Alpha

Yes, the X-acto knife route is much better than scissors. :)

When you say trimmed, do you mean the rounded edges of the stickers will be pre-perforated on the sticker sheet itself? Sorry if this should be obvious.

Based on the pics, it looks like the trimming didn't follow the curves at the end - just a square cut. Otherwise, they look cut and ready to be slapped on a case. Very nicely done, Sparky. =D>

Cool. I'll place an order as soon as you're ready for business.
If you're looking to add anymore stickers to the set, there are a few other US games that came without proper cases. I would buy the first two:

TurboGrafx CD System Card--something that matches the case for the U.S. 3.0 card?

Gate of Thunder--there are a couple designs floating around already, but my printer sucks and I'd be happy with just a spine sticker.

Dungeon Explorer 2--some losers got stuck with the 1996 Hudson reprint.

Ys I-II--for the pack-in version

For at least three of those you'd actually be wanting the tray card:
http://www.fltwood.com/eps_templates/cdtray.pdf

The good thing about those titles is that you could print them one-sided since the spindles for all the CD games were opaque. If you can get a template, some decent semi-gloss paper, and something to put on it... (Ys I & II's tray card was just a yellow border that wrapped around, the rest of the back was black except for some white text that said "CD GAME") you can do it without too much trouble in MS Word.

hey man good call, and the sticker will work well (tray card would be better like jitawa mentioned) but i am up to do that but later as a separate run, & will include them with the sets or i will give out as a free bonus to whoever wants them, just cover the nickels for ship'n. :D

so any good spine reference for the 3.0 card case? i only have the loose card

I'd make the Turbo CD card match Monster Lair/Fight Street cases or the next generation of CD2 cases.
The ML/FS case would only need the title changed on the spine and would be really easy to do as a clear case insert.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Here's an ebay auction that shows the back of the Super System 3.0 card case:

Of course, it makes more sense for it to match the older CD cases like Fighting Street - like Black Tiger suggests. The only thing on the back is CD GAME in the corner. I bet you could change that to CD CARD 2.0 or something like that on that back, and just make the spine like a regular game label.

Jitawa

How soon till we can cover ourselves in TG stickers?

Sparky

Sorry for the delay... i will have another 8-10 full sets made up for this weekend so i will post an official thread Saturday or Sunday with some more pictures of them and references and such.
For those who posted interest here you have first dibs on them :D
