@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Ok...as a fledgeling collector,  I would like to see everyone's ideas on the rarest turbo games hucard and cd,  and an idea of dollar amounts being paid right now for these great games...

help me with the order...
-Magical chase Was the rarest,  I have seen it go for $250, but lately for $191
-Might& Magic III very rare,  I paid $255!  ouch
-Bonk 3 scd was just  purchased buy it now for $250..what is the real value?
-Super Air Zonk scd anyone?
-Bonk 3 hucard is going for $85-120 or so
-Dracula X   not as rare as everyone thinks?  I got a mint original for $129 yes I know it is aPCE game..and we should have a list for that system too,  but we all want it...:)
-Beyond Shadowgate....complete with the poster,  some guy is selling it for $209,  it is also available for $169 not complete.I have been advise tha it is actually in the $120 range
-Terraforming..$89 to 120 or so
-Dungeon Explorer II complete,  maybe $125
-Godzilla. scd...$85-100
-anyone got any info on Dynastic Hero?
-the girlcollectors..hawaii  and bikini....$140-?

was bonk 3 the last hucard?  or dynastic hero or magical chase?
what was the last scd?

I paid $210 for Beyond Shadowgate
I paid $45 for Dungeon Explorer 2 about five months ago
I just paid $35 for Godzilla about a week ago.

Super Air Zonk went for $110 on eBay last week 'buy it now' price.

I hardly EVER see Dynastic Hero on eBay unless its the JPN version.  I can't believe I missed that Super Air Zonk...  Dammit...

ElSeven

Super Air Zonk was up for like 4 hours in the middle of the night.  I cought it almost as soon as it was put up, decided to think about it before commiting to buy, then it was gone!

I should probably post here.   I can't believe I'm not a member since I thought I was, but guess not.  The newest e-mail from Aaron made me sign up.

This is dragsy from eBay.  Hey jlued, sold you that Beyond Shadowgate!

This is what I've sold recently:

Beyond Shadowgate x 2, both complete and NM/M with poster:
$206
$210

Bonk 3 CD x 2, both complete and NM/M:
$250 each, both ended with Buy It Now after 2-3 days each

Might & Magic III with water damaged manual, but NM CD, no poster:
$89

Darius Alpha:
$778

The story behind these was another Turbo collector decided he wanted to part with a few items.  He mailed me the first Bonk 3, first Beyond Shadowgate, and Darius Alpha that were listed recently.  So I had these in my possession and ran the auctions for them.  I wouldn't sell them without them in hand.  After the BeySh and B3CD auctions went so well I sold my extra ones too!

The Turbo market is what I'd call *fickle*
Check my site for Turbo, Neo, NGPC, and superguns!

Hey D-Lite!  Think i have been to your site before...Nice!   jeez..I had my eye on that bonk3 scd....then it went...$250 seems like too much..and over 200 for Beysh  is alot too..but   the market is fickle you are right....glad you made out so well!   Let me know what else pops up in your intrepid hands!  doomfarer75@yahoo.com     ..thanks..Josh

All mint/complete (including maps for respective titles).  I paid,

Beyond Shadowgate  - $206

DE 2 - $100 (had to pay a premium cause I couldn't find it anywhere)

Dracula X - $185 (w/spine)

Excile WP - $40

Dragon Slayer - $55

Vasteel - $35 (it's hard to find the game mint and w/map.  Got a good deal here.)

One game to be on the lookout for is Ys I & II with original map.  Many don't know about it.

And D-Lite is right about turbo fans being fickle.  You just never know.  One week you can get some great deals, the next week you'll see the same titles changing hands at almot double prices

What's a good price for Cotton US?

doomfarer75

I've seen Cotton go in the $90 dollar range,  maybe more.. I Just saw Soldier Blade go for $173.14!!   unbelievable..I wanted it but  not as bad as that dude..wonder if he posts here....thought I could getit for alot less...my shooter parodies should be here tomorrow w/ shockman,  in the meantime I am working on gate of Thunder..what a game..I was always more of a platformer/ RPG guy but the turbo shooters are really doing it for me right now..got LOT coming to from TZD  :)    what about final soldier?

I just picked it up for around $100, so I'm just checking.  I wanted it pretty badly, though, so price didn't really matter too much.  Now I've only got a few more CD games to go to complete my US collection.  Unfortunately, they're the rarest and most expensive ones...

jlued686

Holy crap!  Magical Chase is on eBay right now, currently at $223, and the reserve hasn't been met yet!  Is it THAT rare of a game?

Question - what would a proto. version of a TG16 game go for?  Say, Camp California for example?  An EPROM-based prototype, on a prototype board, that is substantially different from the CD version?

Sprout

I've got the EPROM's for Camp California dumped, but haven't had much luck getting them to work within an emulator, although it's been a year or so since I tried...

Background - I have a single proto board, and whenever I reviewed a game, I'd dump the ROM's to floppy - that way, I could burn whatever game I felt like playing to the EPROM's after returning the review copy of the game.  Of these, I know the Camp California version I have was never produced as an Hucard, and otherwise have 2 or 3 others that are either obviously a bit different from the final version, or look pretty much the same but have a trainer that was built-in for testing purposes.

So - I know how the board works, how the jumpers need to be configured, etc. - don't really need it evaluated; just curious whether these had sold previously - I've never found them mentioned on any web site I've checked through the years, or come across anybody else that had one, so just curious.  Almost every TG16 game I reviewed came on a card like this though, so odd that there wouldn't be more out there.

It's nice to be able to play stuff via an emulator, but I find it nicer to be able to burn whatever you want onto a card like this, and play it on the real thing...

esteban

I was joking :)  You shouldn't actually send out something like that to me :)  Unless you really wanted to.

I don't think I am the only Turbo fan who would be completely intrigued by the items you have.

Don't do anything (i.e. sell them) until you've gotten some reliable feedback from (trustworthy) folks at TurboList and Digital Press... (perhaps this site and magicengine could be a resource, but the former two resources might be more reliable).

Different versions / variations of released games = neat stuff.

Thanks for sharing with us :)

FAVOR: Is it possible to describe the differences in more detail?  anything would be appreciated :)

Will take a few pictures of the proto board - got a new digital camera on order, and my old one is crap, so may be a few weeks..  Had some pictures I'd taken before, but can't find them.

Otherwise, some screenshots I took of Camp California from a couple of years ago - connected the TG up to my computer:

Did Camp California actually come out?
Baseley09 in disguise.

monads

I thought it was released?  But it got horrible reviews.

esteban

As far as I know, Camp California was released.  I'm 99% certain it was released. Here's some stuff:

1. Preview of Camp California (TurboForce #3, September 1992)

2. Review of Camp California (Duo World #1, July/August 1993

I love the fact that it has a "save the environment" theme... it's corny but I dig that vibe.  There was a small "fad" in the early 90's for this stuff (global gladiators video game, a cartoon along the same lines).

We need more games with progressive messages :)  Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever result in a non-cheesy game.

on that note:  The object of Camp California is to STOP THE "BIG CHEESE" from polluting your favorite beach.  Goddam that is so friggin' silly, you can't help but love it.
IMGIMG IMG  |  IMG  |  IMG IMG

monads

LOL, stop the big cheese from polluting your beach!?  Now we have games like San Andreas shoot'em up gang territory style.  I can own the beach or shoot anyone I don't like.

The stuff they put in games now there's no way they would've got away with back then.  I guess it's just like movies though.  Robocop almost received an X-rated title because of some scenes when first released.  Robocop!?

Ok, back to Camp   I wonder what a used copy would fetch for.  I wonder how many copies circulated since it didn't do well.

I've never played the released/CD version, so I'm not sure how different it is from this version - the screenshots I've seen however look quite different from the card-based proto I've got:

http://members.fortunecity.com/turbo_grafx_addict/id247.htm

From what I remember, there are maybe 4 different levels/environments in what I've got; I'm assuming the CD based version has many more, since the CD would hold much more data than the card, but without playing it I can't be sure...

Jammaniaclord

Damn Sprout! Those screenies are different from the cd version. Very interesting buddy. I am interested in how you obtained a copy of that card game. I remember it going to be card then scrapped for cd. Let us know. The romz for that would be killer to have. :D
PC Cocoron Hunter

Sprout

It was sent as a pre-release/review copy to me when I used to review games (wrote for VG&CE & TurboPlay) - I don't believe we ever ended up using it for a review, but I made sure to keep a copy of the ROM's so I could play it later.  I've got several other TG16 games that are slightly different from the released version (different music, title screen slightly different, perhaps a trainer built-in), but this one was obviously a lot different.  I'm guessing they were going to do it as a Hucard originally, and then changed their mind to do it as a CD version instead...

I've otherwise never been able to get it to work in an emulator; worked with the author of "MagicEngine" for a while, but didn't have much luck.  The issues seem to be that because I have the raw ROM images as opposed to a version pulled off of a card or CD, I have to manipulate them and combine them in just the right fashion for the emulator to recognize them properly, set them up with the right memory mapping, etc.  Some of the ones I have (IE Dead Moon, Silent Debuggers) seem to work fine, but others (Camp California, Kadash) either don't work at all, or only come up partially.  Need to mess with them some more at some point.

Well, Camp California arrived today.  It's about what I expected: a very cheesy platformer with a lot of bad 90's "surfer dude" dialogue.  It's good for a laugh, though.  I was surprised to find out that yes, there are actually real Beach Boys songs in there, not just MIDI recreated stuff.

Keranu

Damn it, I want that game!

I only played it for about 15-20 minutes, and in the time I heard "Get Around" and "Good Vibrations".  Luckily there was no "Cokomo" or any of that crap.  At least not that I heard.  But there's no real BB music during the levels.  It all takes place in between.

And like I said, the dialogue is all "dude...bogus...gnarly" and all that stuff.  Very cheesy, but humorous.  It's a pretty clunky platformer.  Again, I only played through one level, but the bear character's only attack was punching.  You have to dodge beach balls, lobsters, and other things.

Keranu

Sounds like an incredible game.
