12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Note:  PC Engine Duo-R will need a region mod if you want to play USA Hucard games.

GohanX

Ah, so you were the one who outbid me on that RGB model.  I will keep my eye on it. How does it look?

erik

I actually purchased 2 RGB-modded units from that one seller in Japan.  The one I am selling is the less-pretty system has some rub/scuff marks on it.  I cleaned it up as much as I could; the controller and multitap look really good now, but the unit shows obvious wear.  I am keeping the 2nd RGB-unit I bought as my Duo of choice, so I no longer need my original S-Video model.  Might as well sell 'em if I don't need 'em!

GohanX

I won the auction!

Ugh, I feel a little queasy for paying that much, when I punched in the amount I really didn't think the other seller had bid that high.  But, I can sell my unmodded Duo R and make most of it back, it should still end up cheaper than paying someone to mod it.

TurboNeo

How much would you let go your unmodded DuoR for JKM?I might be in the market for one soon.

   JKM,
Congratulations on winning the RGB-modded Duo-R. I tested everything and it works great. Dracula X looks wonderful in RGB/Component.  Just out of curiosity, are you going to hookup to an RGB monitor or use an RGB-YUV transcoder?  I actually play my Duo in component video via the transcoder and I couldn't be happier with it!

GohanX

TurboNeo: I'm not too sure yet, it depends on what all I throw in the package, or if I just sell the system by itself.  I paid $170 for the system a few months ago, so I'm shooting for something around there.

Erik: I'm using a RGB-Component transcoder. I run all of my older systems off of it, the PC Engine is the only thing (important) that doesn't have RGB be default.

mossman43

I was the one who bid up to $250. You beat me!!!! :(

GohanX

Sorry bout that. I've bid on RGB Duos before, and I was determined not to lose this one.  If it's any consolation, you made me poor.  :D

Keep an eye on Ebay, the Japanese seller doujindance is the one who normally sells these. He doesn't have any now, but he seems to throw a few up every few weeks. Once I get mine, I plan on opening her up and inspecting the mod, and I'll post in the mod section what I think of it.

mossman43

Well as long as I made your poor then I'm happy!! J/K. What is your opinion on this?

I am the highest bidder so far.

GohanX

That lot looks friggin sweet.  I've always wanted a briefcase setup.  I want that joystick too, and unlike most lots it actually comes with some good games.

You just need to pick up a Super System Card or an Arcade Card, and you'll be set!

mossman43

Now what will the Super System Card do? I have a US Turbo Duo that says version 3.0, will this unit do anything different with a 3.0 card? If you can't tell, I'm kinda new to the Duo PC Engine but have had a TG16 since it came out.

The Super System Card is a 3.0 card for the PCE-CD/TG-CD, making 'em function just like your Duo (capable of playing Super CD-ROM2 titles).  An Arcade Card Pro adds the same functionality plus the extra RAM required for Arcade CD-ROM2 games.

GohanX

Yeah, what he said.  That lot comes with a system 2.0 card, so you can play the regular cd rom games but not Super CDROM games.  They aren't very expensive.

The Arcade Card does the same thing, but has a tad more ram so you can play Arcade Card games.  In my opinion, the only worthwhile game that uses the Arcade Card is Sapphire. The Arcade Card for non-duo systems are pretty expensive though, so I wouldn't bother unless you are obsessed with Sapphire.

mossman43

Well once again I lost the auction by $5. I'm just going to buy one from Japan.

GohanX

Erik,

I got the Duo today, I'm not really sure how the post office managed to get it across the country and over the Pacific in three days.  The dopey mailman left it on my porch when it was raining though.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but everything made it in one piece.  By the way, 5 minutes with a  Magic Eraser took off all of those marks, the Duo looks almost new now.

Thanks!

erik

    JKM,
I actually sent it from San Diego. I put in my new address on ebay, but it still doesn't register on my seller account.  I got some of those scuff marks off before I sent it... I tried my damndest!  Thanks for letting me know what to clean them off with in the future!  Do you you like your Duo in component video?  The difference is very noticeable, especially in red colors.  However, the Duo actually looks pretty good in composite, but the extra step or two above that makes it outstanding!  S-Video modded Duos look very similar to the RGB-modded units, but slightly, SLIGHTLY less clear.  I am glad you now have one more system in component video.  Now if only I new how to do an NES RGB mod... I would be composite free for life!

GohanX

Yeah, it does look great in component. However, I have a slight issue with the little PSX converter box-it doesn't output any audio from the right channel for some reason.  The system itself is fine with the regular cables though.

This isn't a big deal though, I was planning on getting a custom RGB cable made anyway. Heck, if I'm really ambitious I might add some RCA jacks to it.

Duo_R

what RGB to Component transcoders is everyone using here? Maybe a review on what you think?

I use an Audio Authority 9A60.

I picked it up years ago to hook up a Dreamcast to a HDTV. It works great (and automatically!) with any resolution unlike another one I have.

Duo_R

Oopo you really confused me with this post, thought you were implying that it worked with a Duo.... but I guess I didn't specify in my last post that the transcoder was to be used on a Duo.

Well I bought the same box and JKM. Now I just need to either buy Scart or hack the box!
