@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

is this system really worth having? or are there just a couple of good games for it. i think virtual console has downloads, might be a better way to go.

Like every other system, it depends on your tastes.  The Neo Geo is most known for fighters, it also has some great shooters, sports, and puzzle games.  Do you like arcade games? All Neo Geo games were designed for the arcade.  Most are quite difficult and can be beaten in less then an hour.  What are some of your favorite games?  We can recommend similar NeoGeo games for you to try.

As for myself, I love the Neo Geo.  Can be pricey, but my type of games.

I would highly recommend getting one, though the system/games can be very pricey.
While many would say just download the games/ buy a compilation disc (like on the psp), I think games should be played on their original system.

Call me a purist :P

And i'm gonna agree w/ deadite, if you love arcade brawlers/shooters/platformers/arcade games in general, this is the system to have
Arms installation is complete....good luck

I put off getting one of these for years until one basically fell into my lap. It's an *excellent* system. Lots of great figters of course, but there is more variety than you might think. Price is the big downside, though you can get lots of games for $25 - $50 or so. It's well worth owning!

If the prices are too daunting, one can always go MVS or a .......... loading .......... CD system.  Neither is exactly cheap, but their prices are far more palatable than those for AES.

The Neo Geo is for elite assholes.  That's why I have one!

Hell yeah Joe, right behind ya on that! Top loading Neo CD's broken, but keeping the games and holding out for a CDZ. Currently Last Resort is my favorite

When you get sick of Last Resort, please give it to me.  I won't even charge you for shipping!  The emulated version on the PS2 SNK arcade pack is awful due to really poor emulation.

gundarN

MVS all the way, fantastic system.

TH0R

dood, metal slug? nice...what is the difference between mvs and aes?.....is being an elite asshole a bad thing? cuz i think i m one 2  :(

guyjin

MVS is the arcade system, AES is the home system. the carts are not compatible.

TH0R

can you get an mvs system to play at home or is it the big arcade style type?

guyjin

Well, you can use something called a 'supergun' to connect an arcade board (like the MVS) to an ordinary TV and controllers.

bust3dstr8

The Neo sux and most of the games are steaming piles.....oh and Pulstar really blows. If you have one
you should get rid of it immediately, maybe sell it to someone on the forums here or sumtin'

Worth having if you find it's ports or compilations being lack luster.

Nothing beats owning the real deal when it comes to a neogeo.

No load times no worry about or if it's missing any animation to just pickup and play arcade games.

Though as what to own mvs if you are on a budget...or aes if you got the money to burn.

Beside you, don't need a cab to play the mvs at home the board can be consolized or run through a supergun.

While the neogeo is know for it's fighters it does have sports, puzzles, shooters, platformers and some run'n'gun games.

Though if you get one thor that will lead to being called a elitist and a jerk

you can als try to track down a phantom converter which allows you to run MVS on the AES. but they are as pricey as one of those top rare games on the system ($500~700).

I'd recomend the super mvs converter II over that given the P1 is junk. From, what i hear the super mvs converter II has a better track record at least.

Btw made by the people that came up with the neo pce flash card.

KoF'98 and Windjammers are the only Neo Geo games I need, but there several other really great titles (Twinkle Star Sprites, League Bowling, Super Dodgeball, Last Blades, Metal Slugs, etc...)

I don't know about flash cards but back in the day(and even now, if you're lucky) you could take your memory card to the arcades and continue your game from where you left off when you were at home.

As for Neo Geo.. I say GO FOR IT.  I collect and play everything that is Neo Geo, it's my favorite system of all time.  Don't pay any attention to the 'Elitist' crap out there.. the Neo is for kind people, too!  8)

I also recommend the Super MVS Converter 2.. it's much better than the Phantom and costs much less.  No matter what you chose, be it the Neo Geo Pocket, CD, AES, MVS.. you won't regret it.

Cartridges expensive !? You must be looking at the home system the aes now that is pricey. While the mvs the arcade system it's cartridges are dirt cheap.

As for the ngcd you do get a a arrange sound track and some extras, but it suffer from some realy long load times for it's later release's.Not to mention release for it stop at kof99...so that means no games that snkp made.

mobiusclimber

Definitely not a console to get if you primarily play RPGs. There aren't any. (Well, the NeoGeo CD system has a fighting game RPG, I forget which one, no idea if it's any good or if it's even a true RPG. I don't ever plan on spending that kind of money on a system that doesn't have RPGs on it.)

TH0R

i saw some handheld neo geo on ebay for $30! good price right? or do they just suck

Tatsujin

for most games they sux, but for few they really rox. like metal slug 1st & 2nd mission. it's somewhere in the gb color region, in technical and graphical terms, even bit above imo.

do you need an mvs kit for each game? saw a site that had mvs kits that were pricey but were matching sets of the game it came with , like metal slug and metal slug mvs kit... can't you just get one kit for all games?

Tatsujin

one kit for all games.

Nope not unless you want the games complete loose is fine.

man arcade shock has a lot of cool stuff but it'shella expensive! they had some modded neo geo system for about 7-$800.00

Rassilon

Neo-geo is WELL worth having.
Some really excellent games, and the ports/emulation doesnt do them justice.  Go for the real thing.

It can be a bit pricey if you go with the AES home console though... I did that for a while, then built a consolized 2-slot MVS:
IMG

I happen to be selling my modded AES console (s-video, stereo audio, bios mod) and AES games if anyone is interested (and for much cheaper than arcade shock).
