10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Tiger Road.....32 1/2 (complete w/box)

/p1010309.jpg/p1010312.jpg

Tiger Road leads the way forward towards zero. Managed to buy it from Ebay for $16 and that includes shipping. Futile attempts had this baby go as high as $40. Didn't figure Tiger Road was submerging anything soon but lo and behold.  It's funny how old proverbs comes out true or this case, "Patience is a virtue" or "Good things come to those who wait."

Jack Nicklaus' Turbo Golf.....30 1/2 (complete w/box)

A double decker of delicious digital delight and that's just the appetizers. These two cut the cheapie list down to JJ & Jeff and Meteor Blaster DX (possibly, haven't seen one on Ebay yet).

Forty or so entries, my collection grown since this thread began. So, it's about time for an update pic with the pic that started the thread:

On a final note, new turbo countdown in my signature, showing all the games I have yet to get. So, if you're in a "giving" mood and have what I'm looking for, just drop me a pm.

Until then, the hunt continues!

You can still get Meteor Blaster at www.mindrec.com and it never came with a box.  I just got mine that I ordered from them.  He said they only have 1/2 a box left.

Your collections looking awesome by the way.  I always love logging on and seeing an update from you.
All is well. :)

Thanks Roy! Sadly, only got couple of entries left in reserve. After that, I'm tapped out.  :(

Finds on Ebay getting dried up on account only the rare stuff remains. I've tried trading with people here and in the DP forums, brought a good find or two. Guess I'll have to start broadening my horizons. I could start calling stores or make offers on certain particulars I need. Either way, it's an uphill battle from here on out.

Im curious about the ones you still need.  Do you have the games and not the boxes or are you looking for complete games with what you have left on the poster?  Maybe I can help you out with places that I have found.  Let me know

A couple you know already. Here's the breakdown in what I need:

Manuals:
Samurai Ghost
Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu

Boxes:
Air Zonk
Cadash
Fighting Street
Monster Lair
Ys Book I&II (w/map)

Slipcase:
Exile II

Games:
Raiden (w/ case and manual)
Chase HQ (w/ manual)

Clicking the link in my signature will pull up the rest of the games I haven't mentioned. Some games I have incomplete, others I need to buy complete. Every bit of help would be great. Even if its just boxes, that'll make the process all the more easier.

Time Cruise......29 1/2 (complete w/box)

/p1010322.jpg/p1010323.jpg

Let me confess....I suck at pinball.

I suck worse at pinball video games.  ](*,)

That tricky, silver ball seems to have a mind of it own. A mind hellbent on making my experience as miserable as possible. No matter what tricks or flips I use, those things have made their mission to kamikaze dead center (the area between the flippers they can't reach) and ruin whatever hopes in reaching the high score. For video games, take whatever I just said and take to the power of ten. It's as if these metal balls are possessed?!

Can silver balls be possessed by the devil?

Anyway I've played all three turbo pinballs including Devil's Crush and Alien Crush and the great thing they all share is the music. But Time Cruise wins the race by a nose for the vibrant, colorful 80's throwback theme. What? I was a child of the 80s. (Well I was born in the 80s. )

Sinistron......28 1/2 (complete w/box)

/p1010320.jpg/p1010321.jpg

Arcades are the best!

These massive quarter-munchers define gaming quality even to the days of massive poly counts and high-definition hype. No modern machine can ever replace the good times you had chucking the joystick and mashing the buttons. Alas quarters raining from the sky is still a faroff dream and the time spent is barred by far our weekly allowance could hold. The goodbyes were full of hope yet full of sadness.

That's why the heavens created home consoles, bringing the arcade experience to comfort of home. Although the full deal was still a decade off, there were two things that came close in that time: beat 'em ups and shooters. It seems no matter the game, these two genres could never disappoint, even if they tried. Our fond childhood memories are irreplaceable.

Favorite arcade game: Tumble Pop

What's yours?

Ceti Alpha

Wow. The Sinistron box art isn't actually half bad.

New Adventure Island.....27 1/2 (complete w/box)

/p1010328o.jpg/p1010330g.jpg

Couldn't let my baby sink into the dark depths of page 2, could I?

The countdown is back jamming to the beat of celebration completeness. Each entry makes feel like dancing! (Conga line!)

Thanks to peluso8, not one but TWO awesome entries. He kind enough to let pick them in person. Thanks man!  =D>

We had a little talk and peluso mentioned Adventure Island were part of the massive Turbo trade-in at Joe's store. For those who don't know, NAVA is the monthly gaming at the Digital Press in New Jersey held by none other than a true hardcore gamer, Joe Santulli (or Santucci wasn't very good with names). Anyway, nearly one year ago, during the May NAVA, some guy brings in a treasure trove of Turbo treats. It had nearly everything Dynastic Hero, Beyond Shadowgate, Might and Magic III, Neutopia II, loose Magical Chase (I'm cutting it here as some of you maybe drooling at this point.  =P~).

Luckily for me, I was one of the few to get first dibs on this TG gamer's wet dream. The games I wanted had boxes and surprisingly enough....I didn't want them.  Before you get out the pitchfork and torches, let me explain myself a little. At that time, the only games boxed were Splatterhouse, Cosmic Fantasy 2, and Exile with the rest in jewel cases and had no intention in going beyond that as it's somewhat difficult to find a place to put them in neatly. So, I went up to Joe and asked were it possible to sell the games and the boxes separately.   No dice he said. Stuck in one crazy conundrum, on one hand, I could take the games then trade off the boxes later but naturally a packrat, they'd pry them from cold body before that happens, or leave with nothing. There's always coming back later but who know if there's another golden opportunity like this.

What to do? What to do?

*snap* Then it came to me! If I'm going to get them boxed, why not get them all? That's where my Turbo tenacity went into overdrive. Bought about 15-20 goodies including Dead Moon, Somer Assault, Dragon's Curse, Paranoia, Exile II, and plenty to give me a jump start. That was one year ago. What started as a fraction, now makes up the majority with over 100 titles and inching ever so closer to the goal. I must say....I'm DAMN proud  of it.  :D

Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu.....26 1/2 (complete w/box)

/p1010332r.jpg /p1010333x.jpg

Jackie Chan kicking this countdown back on top. And speaking of 'kicking', almost finished with the audio portion of my latest video review. Will put it up on my channel within the next week.

Raiden.....25 1/2 (complete w/box)

/p1010334wfi.jpg /p1010335x.jpg

Interesting arcade story.

I'm Greek and both my parent are Greek. Actually, they both come from the same village and moved here to America. For summer vacation, my family goes there visiting families, catching up with old friends, stop by the beach every day (beautiful view of the Mediterranean sea, btw), the whole family reunion package with the trimmings on top. The village is called Armeni. A rural spot on the southwestern edge of Greece's south peninsula and getting takes 3-4 hours (by mountain  :-#). Dwarfed by the country's huge mountains. Literally, the tops of them can touch the clouds. The people there are mostly farmers and live a regulatory life. They wake up at dawn tending to their crops, morning they're sipping coffee, have lunch at noon, quiet time in the afternoon, and party all night!

So, what does any of this have to do with video games or arcades? Well, when I was young, the local cafe used had (believe or not) arcades. They had some of the best kind around. Don't care about 90's arcade decline when a remote village can get great games like Bubble Bobble, Shinobi, and even Street Fighter II! Then, that's bullsh!t. To top it off, they had Raiden. It was fun to play  but hard to beat.

Super Air Zonk.....23 1/2 (complete)

/p1010376w.jpg /p1010378a.jpg

I do.

Managed to grab this beauty for $60 off Ebay....without manual.  :(

Luckily geddon was generous enough to send his Super Air Zonk copy for free. So, Kudos to you, my friend!  =D>  =D>  =D>

It's been nearly one year since starting on the Turbo box hunt. Over that time, crazy sh!t keeps popping up including Ebay, where resellers have justified this hyper-inflation as "appreciation in growth". To that I say....screw them! Adding to that I'll list the prices for the games I've acquired and just to be sure there's no more for doubt (or excuses), let's stick to some of the more recent stuff.

Air Zonk $20
Jackie Chan $11
Ys III $13
Time Cruise $20
New Adventure Island $20
Raiden $23
Chase HQ $28
Shockman $25
Soldier Blade x2 $70

Let's not forget Super Air Zonk $70
(Yes its $10 more than what I told ya but that's how much was willing to pay for it.)

Been awhile since we heard from ya Press.  I see you last logged on today but we haven't heard from you in awhile.  Haven't picked up any Turbo goodies lately or just been busy?
All is well. :)
