Yeah, I personally like the FF music better, but the DQ music clearly demonstrates a higher level of ability.  If you listen to their later works, Sugiyama continued to *consistently* compose high-quality music, whereas Uematsu soundtracks are hit-and-miss.  The difference in training and (current) ability is obvious.

point taken.  The DQ music is short, and strictly classical.   Though, as great as that is, it wasn't the point of the original argument.  It was a statement of which one sounds better.  My statement never had anything to do with the composers themselves.  It was strictly instrumentation.  Even the NES versions have a noticeable difference in instrument quality.

Aussie2B missed that point despite it being mentioned multiple times, and took it into the classical vs. hands on thing complete with boasting about how much she knows.  When it FINALLY came back to the instruments and sounds, she made some incorrect/ill informed hardware statements, and that was that.  I don't remember the argument going much further after the hardware statements she made were pointed out as wrong.

*shrug*  Aussie2B isn't always right.  When I was there, she often misinterpreted people, or missed the point, and no matter how many times you'd try to get that through her head, she refused to acknowledge it and continued flailing about.  I dont disagree that she knows whats up, but I think shes maybe gotten too cozy being a source of RPG information, and feels the needs to get hot headed and argue with people for the sake of it, without listening fully to whats being said.   Typical woman.

It's all fucking opinion/personal preference.  However Sugiyama mainly has stuck doing music for DQ games which are usually so similar.  Uematsu has branched out a bit more.  Also, the compositions are geared towards setting a mood for whatever game it was.  The director probably has a big part of what kind of music he wants in the game.  It's not just up to the composer.

the tilemaps of FF are way better, the tunes are better (duh ... man the MSX FM ones especially.), and in parts the theme is better, but fuck is the game tricky to deal with.

Once it was finally clarified, the obvious solution is to go Oh, thats what you meant, oh ok.  and debate properly instead of continuing to argue the wrong point.  I dont remember what happened when, and I am sure you will tell me... but I dont think Aussie2B ever really let up on the classical vs. hands on debate, unless you count erroneous hardware talk.

That was the general implication, and I am pretty sure Aussie2B said something to that effect.  Something along the lines of "Sugiyama's classical training can't be touched by Uematsu's hands on skills".   I think that might even be what actually sparked the whole debate.  Mind you, I also think Aussie2B went back and edited some posts, and removed some others altogether. I'm too lazy to look.   Maybe I will look eventually.  Or you could link me the thread.

You?  I think if you look at what was said here, and what was said there, you'll see that you're pretty mistaken.  Aussie2B misinterpreted the point,  Wrongly discussed technical things relevant to the actual point, made absurd claims about the two composers in comparison to one another, and then when all was said and done, bailed after the youtube video and the pointing out that the hardware stuff she mentioned was wrong. 

That sort of thing has happened before with Aussie2B.  She'll argue with someone, make pretentious statements and try to insult the poster rather than just get a point across, and then if it doesn't go her way or if someone points out that shes wrong.... she just ceases to post.    There is a reason people on digitpiss have said things like "dont say that, youll summon Aussie2B".
