I honestly can't believe that when I was younger I thought the final level in this was so tough-
Just threw it on and destroyed it (without ultimate weapon, invincibility, continues, codes, etc.)- felt like it only lasted ten minutes.

Damn it looks like I need to start playing again. Nice clears guys. I'll be on vacation starting this weekend so I should get a couple plays in. Maybe I'll see if I can beat Rayxanber II & III again. It's been a while. Side Arms on Hu I have never beaten, so I'll try for that first.

Yeah- I'm a sucker for Ikari Warriors/Commando type action myself- I just wish this game could've been longer. It's ludicrously short for a CD game- probably not even 1/5th the size of Last Alert.

Some co-op play would have also been a great addition to this game. With the different characters, the game almost begs for it.

nah I'm being serious- there's an army type guy- a couple of futuristic looking soldiers- one with a normal shot and one with a lazer, like three different armored trucks, winged freaks, green guys with slimy puke flying from their mouths, spiders- and the final boss. That's ten enemies. I might be missing like ONE- but I think that's about it.

Tanks:
dual turrets
single turret and missile launcher
four turrets and flame thrower (boss)

Aircraft:
light green helicopter
dark green helicopter
fighter jets
giant plane (boss)

Watercraft:
destroyer
battleship
aircraft carrier with anti-aircraft rockets

NAPs:
purple and white with machine gun
purple and gold with laser
gray with jet pack and machine gun
squat and green with rocket launcher
gold with dual lasers (boss)

Other:
acid spitter
spiders
faeries
giant snake/skull thing (boss)

I was just pokin' ya with a pointy stick earlier and agree that it could use more variety (as well as a second player and a couple more stages), so I'm surprised that there's this many different enemies. Even though some of 'em are pretty similar (the 'copters differ in color only), it sure doesn't feel like there's that many different dudes when playing.

Clear #87 - Magical Chase

I love this game- but it's way too easy for me to clear on my first sitting- I'll probably check out the hard mode soon...

it's actually not balanced that well- the toughest boss was some guy in some sort of flying throne (fourth board?)- and the bosses after that were jokey- final boss being one of the easiest

I had the same experience with both games, except that I had a hard time beating a boss or two in Magical Chase because I didn't figure out for a while that you could lock your stars into position (I don't normally read manuals).

I also really like Sylphia, but it's certainly not the best nor most difficult shooter around.

I haven't been this impressed by someone's Turbo/PCE playing spree since Runinruder's "worthless thoughts" thread.

Clear #91 - Valis IV

Last boss was pretty rough!

Having now beat all the Valis games- my judgment on their ordering of quality is IV>I>III>II - with II being the only one that I didn't love (actually found little to nothing to love about part II)
III was a lot of fun- but the balance and curve was across the board- with jokey levels smack in the middle of ludicrously tough ones- the game was all over the place. I loved the look and feel of I- loved the way Yuko moved and the game was better balanced than III- IV however- yesssss. My kind of game. Compared to the other three the rising difficulty curve was masterfully plotted- and the game was much longer than I expected it to be- I was expected 7 levels and instead got 9- with the 9th even having two little mini bosses. By far my favorite game of the series.

Clear #92- Impossamole

Had this back in the day- got it again recently and finally beat it- without much of a problem. Had 9 extra guys when I completed it.

All in all this game isn't as bad as I remembered- it's mediocre. I certainly have platformers that I enjoyed far less.

I really enjoyed this game. I'm a samurai nerd so I loved the theme of the game, and the swordplay engine was easy to use but quite fun. Once you learn the game it's really easy. It had one of the better endings I've seen so far too!

I liked how each of the first few stages introduced a couple of new enemies. Pretty much a boring game though... I had a lot more fun with Takeda Shingen. The highlight of the game was the cool noise that the first of the two final bosses makes when you kill him!

Clear #93 - Shubibinman

Took me a few plays to master this one-
but I did- no deaths/continues for the clear.
I kind of like it- I definitely enjoy it more than Shubibinman II/Shockman.
The trick is to figure out what it is you're purchasing- the potion and life extensions and nurse obviously the most important. The Shubibi Beam is pretty pointless in this game.
