12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

That copy of Exile 2 in there looks like the one I bought a couple years ago with sharpie through the UPC on the slipcase.  That was a saddening experience because all the photos of the item had been taken to perfectly hide the defect and then when I mentioned it to the seller after getting the item they feigned ignorance about the whole thing.

The whole "I know nothing" game eh?  Yeah plenty of those in the ebay world.  Sadly a lot of it comes with buying Turbo games.  The way prices are now with Turbo stuff it's hard to not want games you buy to be in great condition.  What's sad about it is the fact that the games are being harder and harder to come by.  When they are it's usually not the best condition but a premium price. You'd think he'd reduce his price eventually, or at least post a real photo of the item.

Yep and two+ years going strong of not selling it. :) Posted many times before.
Yeah, old news, this is none other than megahit79, nicknamed "World Class Gouger" by Tat. We have a picture of him in this thread further back. He bought a $1,000 SNK cart and immediately tried to flip it upon receiving it for $30,000 and has been trying to gouge just that Bonk III manual like forever... Persistent SOB, that's for sure!

From my experience checking eBay daily for the last few years Terraforming is one of the harder to find CD games that rarely pops up. I remember when I got mine about a year ago there was a big span of time it wasn't listed. I believe I paid $80-$100 a year ago for a mint condition copy.

This auction looks a little suspicious to me...$300+ with 7 days left? It's not usual for the price to spike so early.

I'm often interested in how many copies a lot of turbo games were printed/sold. For no other reason then curiosity. I have a deep interest in the history of the video game business, so these numbers always intrigue me. Oh well.

I am too. Unfortunately, the moment a number is quoted, gougers and gullible collectors alike will use it to justify limitless collector prices. It literally becomes limited edition to those people (who have taken over the Turbo market).

But separate from that, whatever the exact numbers of any game sold or produced are, it is meaningless when it comes to "rarity". No one knows what the legitimate demand is, so the number if current copies in existence only fuels imagination. With so many resellers sitting on stacks of the same rarer Turbo games, Magical Chase and Dynastic Hero could each be more common than Bonk's Adventure for all we know. They control the "fair market value" either way.

Absolutely nothing. I'm rarely surprised anymore when a game, despite the system, becomes hugely expensive. I like to have some idea of where that sudden price jump or desire to own came from. I can point to Final Fantasy VII on the PS1...last summer, it took off in price (it has since settled) and I was flabbergasted as to why. How many millions of copies of that game existed? I couldn't understand how the game was selling for as much as it sold for new when there is copy for every person living here.

Very similar to some NES games like contra.  Still getting a somewhat lofty price, even for a loosey.  Especially considering how many were sold.  And look at golden eye for 64.  Still fetching over 20 a cart and look at how many of THOSE are out there.

FF7 has had a recent price spike? I had no idea... that's one of the few games I held onto from my youth. Surprised that its worth anything as it had a "greatest Hits" release and probably sold in the millions

Now I have seen everything.
Those books have been noted before.  The back story is that the "publisher" found a loophole with Amazons books on demand feature where if a publisher had a certain amount of sales Amazon would then automatically order a certain number of any new book that was published.  The publisher generated fake sales by putting in requests with public and university libraries for the titles that they made (reprints of wikipedia articles) and then once they had hit the sales threshold Amazon would then start buying with no triggers.  By the time Amazon had caught on they had sold a metric ass load of worthless books to Amazon.  Amazon then dumped them at wholesale to companies that buy up excess inventory and now some unsuspecting company is trying to sell them on ebay.  That seller has over 90,000 auctions for betascript publishing books right now...

Not commenting on the price, but...

A) That's the hucard, not the harder to find SCD.

B) Patience and luck are great, but let's be real. It requires obsessive checking of auction sites, scouring thrift stores and a large amount of effort to find a game like that for cheap.

True on A however the one from 4 pages ago (if you go back and look) he was actually talking about the Hu card, not the CD discussion that is on this page.

And for B?  Yup, you're right, it can take a lot of effort.  But if you want a deal it's what you have to do, if not, you can always pay the premium price.

The way it is in Turbo land these days is the lazy people pay the premium price.  Well that and the 18 year old uneducated.

:-k :-k  So, if someone pays more than what YOU feel is too much, they are lazy?  There is a lot of middle ground as far as prices.  Basically, there is a OMG that shit is too high, or, damn...its a little more than I wanted, but it rarely pops up.  Not defending the gougers at all, lets get that point straight.  However, not everyone can stay glued to their PC waiting for that GREAT deal, specially when so many people are searching.

jelloslug

The real answer for what a specific game is worth is:

Whatever someone will pay for it.

Sure, there will be instances were someone gets an astounding deal but for the most part the market sets the price.  That's why there are hundreds of unsold auctions everyday for $30 common games and $150 systems.

There was one that sold for $230 + 8 shipping a few weeks ago. It was gone within 30 seconds of listing. If you want to spend less than $350, you basically have to obsessively check ebay every 30 seconds for an entire year. What is your time worth?
