Way higher than I'd pay personally but I bet someone would bite at the opening bid.
Soldier Blade is not legitimately selling for $700. Shill bidding and scams, sure.

But not legit.

its all shills and fake "sales" and people fall for it all the time.  leaves us in the shit state the whole hobby has become.

neopolss

Just going by the number of unpaid item claims I file per week selling lately, I would say most of the sold listings go unpaid.

jonebone

I know everyone here is pessimistic, but believe it or not, yes I bet that listing is legit.  Soldier Blade is in a legitimate spike right now, case + manual are going for $350 or so and adding box probably puts it around $500-$600 at least.  When things are in a drought people panic and prices explode, that's how it goes.

I sell a couple hundred items on eBay a year and I may get one or two non-payers.  A few bad apples is not the norm, despite the commentary here.

Gypsy

I paid $85 for Soldier Blade this year fully complete. I don't even think it was an amazing price either.

It is a Japanese copy of course.

And another copy sold in a lot with 10 other boxed games, KC, and a system for ~$900.  Don't look at the highest price you can find to determine value.

A little patience would go a long way methinks. Buyers should actually have a modicum of control, given that they are the ones spending the money but when idiots will pay whatever it takes to get "the rares" well that's how we end up in this current shithole state.

i also blame lack of true resourses.  its a landscape that is impossible to gauge.  unfortunately, everything people have to rely on is based on that one, two, or three morons skewing sold "averages" and those silly charts people look at.  thats why the simple question should always be "what do YOU want for it?"

Gypsy

Very good point Gynt. Lots of games out there are not worth what the market dictates to me. I will likely never have actual copies of those games (I will pirate the eff out of em though) and I'm more than okay with that.

ginoscope

These people are fools and most of them want the game complete with the box.  Don't get me wrong I will take the game complete if it makes sense but if not I don't care the card/cd is fine with me.  I have also gotten killer deals on cd games like valis II, Ys III,  last alert, etc because they are missing the manual and/or the disc is scratched.

I took these scratched cds to a local game store and had them resurfaced and they look and play perfect now.  My point being these are for me to play and no plans to ever resell.  I don't care that my Ys III manual looks like someone stepped on it to me it gives it character lol.  You can find deals on ebay if you are patient.

That's the thing most people are not patient and want eye candy so they can post online and circle jerk with their peers.

jonebone

You don't assume that the most recent high sales price is indicative of current value.  But you also don't discredit it and say, non-paying bidder / fake bids / etc unless you can prove it.

TG16 is fairly comparable to original gameboy CIB... boxes can be brutal to find with long droughts, and a much more niche community than NES / SNES console collectors.  And plenty of those CIBs have jumped ridiculous amounts in a drought.  Example, Avenging Spirit, I owned a couple sub $100.  Then it blew up to $800-$1000 (I sold one there myself) and finally cooled back down to $400-$500.

Price spikes happen all the time.  Typically they do cool off at some point but the price never returns to where it was pre-spike.  Usually settles somewhere in between the low and the high.

We had people regularly proving it within this thread for a long time. Gougers got wind of it and asked eBay enough times to cover their tracks until they changed things to hide the identities of bidders and shorten the history results. Gougers artificially create demand, prices raise overall and eBay gets their cut.

We understand that collectards are real and have no clue about the markets that are their hobby. But the only reason insta-set collectors occassionally bite the bullet is in reaction to fraud that they foolishly believe to be real.

The best way to look at results is with educated judgement and when too few variables exist, you have to accept that you aren't in a position to judge accurately. Too many people take this to mean "pay anything!".

At least you were savvy enough to flip one of your Avenging Spirits while the market was hot and make a cool grand.

This is how I try to approach it (though I do like having hu cases because I lose loose hus too damn easily). I've gotten very good deals on ebay on PCE games with no spine label or back paper...who cares since the point is to play it? Same things with no instructions...I'd like to have them but in the age of the internet who really needs them? Just go look it up.

$600 bucks for that disc....

Totally worth it.  I might buy two.

not related to gauging - but I did try to sell some items on Ebay recently, including one nice boxed working Sega Nomad with some games (but a lamer bid on it and I cancelled the order - will prob put it on here for trade/sell before I leave US).

anyway what I did notice on Ebay are the number of listings (attractive items, at least) in auction format on Ebay has really thinned.  I dont see anything interesting, for example, when I search for PC Engine.  It seems JP sellers no longer really hit ebay to try to sell their stuff.

and for US stuff I dont see much.. there was a nice fully complete Ys with the map etc, that went for quite a bit ($120+).

I didnt buy much recently, did pick up a Genesis TMNT CIB ($90) and a SMS convertor for Genesis CIB for $90 as well.

geise

Hey Tokei!   Congrats on extending the family! :D  Yeah going to ebay now really is pointless for me.  There's so many people wanting stuff and so much greed out there with re-sellers that I don't even bother anymore.  There's no fun trying to score games to play.  Especially when I really just want to play.

But the HD NES kit and Analouge can do 1080 where this can only do 720?
The NES originally output at 240 so wouldn't it be better to output at 720 since its an even amount of additional lines being scaled (3x) compared to 1080 (4.5x)? I don't know squat about that stuff but it seems like that would make more sense..
