Just curious: do any of you have any kind of 'brand loyalty' to NEC at all, outside of their consoles? Do any of you own NEC electroics at all, other than your turbos?

I am using my NEC MultiSync FP 950 screen as I type this.  Best resolution for the buck.  I got it in early February, 2000.  It was around $540.  It goes up to 1900 by 1440 maximum resolution.  But I don't use that for text.  Too much of a strain.  I like NEC products.  By the way I have a Dreamcast and a Gamecube and in the future a Wii, which all have some sort of NEC component.
Let the old mix with the new.

I'm not loyal to NEC because IMO, the PC Engine is Hudsons system - they designed it, designed the custom CPU, Video processor, and Color processor. They also own the patents for the system, NEC is more akin to an executive producer role.

I really like NEC stuff, but it seems like every time I want to buy something they make it's really expensive, so I don't think I own any NEC stuff right now.  Anytime I see their name though I think of quality, like I used to think of Sony stuff before the original Playstation came out.

I'm listening to an old tabletop Sony radio from the 60's as I write this. I too thought Sony was a quality brand, since my boombox, walkmans, discmans, and receivers lasted forever despite the unintentional abuse they received. However, I've owned 3-4 Sony component CD Players (2 single and 2 5-disc) and they've all had major problems after just a few years. Perhaps the moving parts are victim to wear-n-tear, but wouldn't that also be true of the discman? I had a Sony TV from the early 80's that refused to die and I gave it to a friend a few weeks ago. I watched a zillion hours on that thing.

Prior to moving, I gave away an old NEC multisync monitor from the early 90's. It was a behemoth but it was a great monitor. I don't think I've owned anything by NEC except for computer monitors, and even then they were hand-me-downs. I have an old NEC catalog from... 1986? and there are high-end television monitors and stereo components in them. I'd love to get one of these items (just for the hell of it), but I've never seen them in any of the thrift shops I frequent. I have been lucky enough to find some really nice Marantz amplifiers/tuners/receivers in the thrift stores, though. Beautiful stuff.

I have a pretty Marantz 2015 connected to my computer right here. The speakers connected to that are a pair of Philips 9439 DRC mkII speakers. 70's amp with 80's speakers. Modern stuff.

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

SO NEC didn't help out in designing the PC-Engine/Duo?  I thought it was a co-production.  Anyway, NEC makes excellent CRT monitors.  I don't know how their LCD monitors for computer are?

I have brand loyalty for no one...I use whatever suits me.

When I decided to get a NEC monitor, I looked into other ones.  SOny had a similar performing CRT monitor at the time, but it was A LOT more.  Probably over a $1,000.  I got my NEC off of Buy.com, I think, for around $540.  It was discounted from its MSRP, which was around $700-$800.

NEC Avenue

I have a bunch of stuff from NEC.

Laptop, 2 desktops (one with built-in LCD), FP950 monitor, M500 monitor, cellphone, digital multiplexer chassis. Some people prefer SONY branded stuff, me I prefer NEC. NEC makes all kinds of quality electronics but it's either really hard to find in the US or expensive. I buy a lot of my NEC stuff on ebay and from European market even though I'm from US.

There was this time where a seller in the UK was selling this really cool NEC computer that included an LCD for around $200. She had purchased it in Asia. I came upon the auction late so it was sold to another ebayer. :(

Anyway NEC sells all of their good stuff in Europe and Asia. Check out this cool watercooled NEC computer.

If I can help it, I stay away from Sony products. They cut too many corners for there low-to-mid range product. This is(was) true for the entry level PRO video equipment as well - their PRO 24p cameras were not true 24p exposure cameras as they lead one to believe, resulting in very jerky movement. Just another example of Sony selling there name instead of good product.

Digi.k

there was a time I wanted nothing but a NEC CRT monitor and an NEC home PC..

I think I also wanted to buy NEC portable TV to go with the PCE

Wouldn't it be really cool if NEC released a PC case that looked exactly like a PC-FX? That would be awesome!! I'd buy the case and load it up with the latest processors and GBs of RAM.

Heck if they made it competely out of aluminum it would be even better? Anyone here know where I can get the blue prints or CAD data for a PC-FX? Maybe if NEC doesn't do it we can get a local machine shop to do a limited run? Do you think NEC will allow us to do this without taking us to court?

I wonder if laser scanning an actual PC-FX is easier?

Arron?

Buy an FX, gut it out and use it as a PC case. That's what I plan to do someday (because the PC-FX looks aaawesome!)

Well the only problem with that idea is that I need to find one that isn't working.
