you remember the good times?

It's now soon 4 years since konami decided to change their top-notch over decades well known "small-wave" logo to the fugly konami writing. why in the hell, konami just made this big step backward in public appearance?

it's without a doubt perhaps the best logo a game company ever could have and they just kicked it straight to hell for any reason. arses!

really miss it :(

You're not the only one. My disappointments were even Konami straightening up their letters. I always liked the letters slanted.

I miss that logo too, it always had a special charm to it, especially with the little Konami jingle that plays with it. By the way, is there any significance to that logo?

Ah!  Ko(小)Nami(波)!  Damn - that is brilliant.  I never made the connection.

The old logo is about a million times better - much more recognizable, and just overall a lot more soothing to look at that the boring new logo.

GUTS

The old logo is awesome, but I kind of like the new one too.  Its simple, distinct, and looks nice on a game box, like all game company logos should.

Tatsujin

here the very early logo which they used before the two "small waves".

Quote from: natThat original Konami logo actually reminds me quite a bit of the Nintendo logo.
Perhaps that's why it was changed.  They thought it looked a little too close to Nintendo's logo and feared that Nintendo would go after their asses for it.  In my opinion, it was for the better.  This first logo looks too dull!

As for the logo change, yes, I am very disappointed that they had to shelf the original logo in favor of that new boring one.  Konami's argument for this is that they want to improve themselves for the future and wanted a new logo to reflect upon their improvement.  In other words, it's a business decision (more like business politics) for them.  They thought that keeping the old logo with the waves would make them look too "old-fashioned".  I call BS on this as Capcom has never changed their logo ever since they went into the video game development business back in the 80's and are still great today as they were back then.

What would happen if Hudson felt the need to eliminate the bee from their logo in order to make themselves more "improved"? Food for thought.

Really? That makes me very happy! I hate them with a passion too. Every single Capcom game I've played (except RE4) has been crap. They also love milking their already crappy series (Mega Man, Resident Evil, their random action junk) to death. I hate when companies do that, with bad games no less. Ugh. Never liked Capcom. Damn Seldane, that's a lot of games to hate.  No love for the Street Fighter series, Mega Man series, or 1941 (my favorite Capcom title)?  I agree that they pimped 'em out over the years, but that doesn't make the originals suck.

SEGA still has the same logo as well.

I don't hate Capcom.  Maybe y'all hate them due to some "Capcom envy" because you haad a Turbo/PC Engine and they rarely made games for it?  I think that's it.  Don't try to deny it.

termis

Capcom definitely cranked out solid titles over the years.

Though I must say that Capcom fanboys were annoying.  They were like, "Hey, let's go play Saturday night slam masters!", and I'd reply with how much I thought it sucked, and they'd simply say, "But it's CAPCOM!"

Seldane

I guess I dislike (hate is such a strong word, let's say I dislike them instead) Capcom because I pretty much only like and play RPGs. Capcom hasn't made many of those, but they did make Breath of Fire. The only game that's actually made me feel physically ill!

Capcom pretty much only makes pure action games, another genre that I definitely do not like at all. Nor do I like fighting games.

I don't get what's so good about Mega Man. Mega Man 8 was pretty fun, and so was Mega Man and Bass, but the rest...

Oh, the rest. :-&

i liked capcom the best between their beginning in 1984 until 1994. they made some extremely beautiful games in any aspects of view. especially on their CPS1 board and its pre-hardware, just to mention some of the top notch titles:

- 1984 (serie)
- makaimura / ghosts'n goblins
- gunsmoke
- legendary wings / ares no tsubasa
- commando / senjo no okami
- daimakimura / ghouls'n ghosts
- final fight
- SFII (', turbo)

and as well as bunch of great exclusive FC/SFC etc. games.

but for myself, i also hate the rockman series to no end and will do that probably to the end of my poor life.

I enjoy Mega Man 2 lots and lots.  I somewhat enjoy Mega Man 1 and 3.  I don't care for any other Mega Man game.

ParanoiaDragon

I enjoy all the original MM games, but, 7 was eh, 8 was ok, as was MM & B.  The X series is cool, except 7 which sucks for the most part, I haven't gotten into the Zero series, I have it, but, I don't know if I'll ever enjoy it.  I have the Legends games, they're cool I guess, haven't played thru them.  The Battle Network ones don't do a damn thing for me.  But, now I LOVE the ZX series, it's Mega Man, & it's Metroidesque!  I got sucked into the first game, can't wait for the next!

Hmm, most of the stuff I enjoy from Capcom, is old school, there's not much these days that pleases me from them.  Frankly, Konami has been one of the most consisten companies IMO, they've been delivering nice games to my door for all these years.  They're not Falcom, nor are they Mindrec or Frozen Utopia, but, hey, you can only be soo good

Please finish that article when you can, I'd really like to read it.

I can see how some people can dislike certain era's of a company, like say modern Capcom or Konami in general. Just as many people only like the early albums of certain bands. But its unusual for someone as non-ignorant or fanboyish as yourself to outright say you hate a classic game maker like Capcom.

I know that as much as I love so many classic Capcom games, I don't like many of the untouchable titles like Strider.

I'd never say I hate Hudson, although the Hudson Soft I love died years ago. But of course, you're already picking out 20 year old Capcom games you don't like, so I guess its not the same thing.

I think part of it may be a generational gap, since by the time you started to recognize the name Capcom, they'd already past their prime. Where as when I was growing up and most kids either didn't own home consoles or the NES hadn't come out yet. And Capcom was responsible for most of my favorite arcade games, during a time when arcades actually meant something.

So you're saying you hate Megaman 2's music?

And even if you think the gameplay is awful, how are the NES Megaman's graphics bad?

Personally, I think that the Megaman series is based on a good idea that never got fully realized or fully understood by it's own publisher. Just like Castlevania, but that series is not nearly as bad a scenario and it's rehashes are a lot better.

Keranu, you're in a tough spot now: I don't know how you're gonna explain your feelings about Capcom. :) I guess this means I'll have to re-think the birthday gift I picked out for you (Section Z and Sidarms Special). Oh well :(.

I'm not going to start teasing you now (I'll wait until you have time to explain things further).

Anyway, suffice it to say that Capcom made a ton of great games, IMO.

Bionic motherfuckin' Commando... no wait, nearly *all* of Capcom's NES titles were solid! Back in the day (8-bit/16-bit), I knew that I would be getting my money's worth with Capcom / Konami. This was not a fact. It was the law. The LAW. OK, I'm laying it on a bit thick, but the point is that both companies had a great track record, AFAIAC :) (did I make that up? or do some folks use AFAIAC?)

This alone is reason to love Capcom, and we haven't even touched the arcade games or games for other consoles!
