In this US this happens pretty much every day. I just assumed it did in Japan too since gamers tend to be universally lazy amoral thieving scum. Not as bad as people who collect car stereo crap, or crack addicts, but still pretty bad. Sort of like...people you'd meet at an anime club on the American east coast in 1992.

Gamestops don't get robbed of their own games, only to have them sold back to them. Usually it's games stolen from other stores.

Gamestop has this bizzare need to build stores in bad parts of town - it's almost like they want stolen goods. Except they sometimes get robbed themselves.
