Ninja Spirit

One of the best anime series of all time + 2-D + Arc systems, the same people who blessed us with Guilty Gear = MAYHEM!

Well, its definately going to be the best Fist/Hokuto game to date. :)

Dark Fact

This is only for arcade? If so, is it any good? Maybe in the future I could ask mike to make a supergun with this game included!

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Arcade only it runs on (Sammy Atomiswave).

Still the most you can hope for is a port of it one day for the PS2.

I've seen some gameplay videos of it on Youtube and it looks pretty damn slick.

If it runs on the Guilty Gear engine, then I am sold on this as Guilty Gear is one of the most fun and easy to control fighting games I ever played! 8)

A PS2 port was announced a while ago which is nice for the common user, but I was kind of hoping it would stay arcade only since I've always wanted an excuse to buy an Atomiswave, and really there isn't one.

The game looks pretty nice, but I'm not a huge fan of Arc's stuff so my favorite game staring Kenshiro will probably always be Punchmania: Hotonoken

Until that happens, enjoy this doujinshi 2-D fighter "Axel City". This is the closest to HnK at home right now.
Read the video's description on where to download it.

Actually if you have competition where you live, I'd say still go ahead and get an Atomiswave just to look cool.

That looks just like the one I played at the city fair when they were in town years ago.  Lots of fun but will eat your quarters! 8-[

Dark Fact

Problem is, arcade centers are quickly becoming a passing craze.  In the last 3 years in my city, all the major arcade centers have been closing down left, right, and center.  The last major arcade in my city (which had been running for 20 years!) closed down just a couple of years ago.  The only real arcade left in the city is a kid's pizza and amusement center on a nearby highway.

I think mostly due to the breakdown of the machines over age, the costly maintenance to keep them running, and the rise in arcade emulation, arcades are just not considered worth the effort anymore for entertainment.

It's too bad because I still like to drop a good quarter into my local arcades just to play a good shmup.

Yet they're still going strong in Asia and Europe (I heard), especially Japan.

In fact, I heard the Japanese arcades are actually implementing online play in their newer fighters.

The Japanese arcade scene is huge, yeah, but its also taken a pretty huge hit in recent years. Its still gigantic though, partially because the Japanese will actually put money in the damn machines, as opposed to Americans that say its too expensive (and then waste an assload of cash on the "games" at the local reservation)

There are a lot of theories as to why the scene died in the US, but from what I've seen around where I live (Michigan) most arcades didn't even try. They focus %90 on redemption junk, and then blame their failure on the fact that consoles are so powerful. The arcade in my local mall went three solid years without a new game. Seriously, how did they expect to do well like that? When they very rarely did get a new game, it would be some huge hella expesive thing like Time Crisis 2, which everyone just plays once and walks away. Also, all the fighting games have busted controlers. A joystick is about $7...for a $1300 PCB. There is no excuse. The blue gun was blown out of the Tekken 3 machine. Greenish Tekken 3...for a year! Seriously, fix your shit.

The arcades in Michigan that I know of that are still doing well are the ones with a very heavy focus on fighting games, and beamani. This keeps a heavy emphasis on multiplayer versus play, which brings in the quarters like rain.

You can thank the console market for that as well.

Once the consoles had caught up to the arcades offering.... better graphics and play modes. It became pretty much pointless going to a, arcade when the home version offer so much more. If you ask any body that grew up on the (PS1) to give the arcade a  chance again i know you be laugh at.

Really the arcade of the old is dead all that is left now are Gameworks, Chuckie Cheese and Dave&Busters.

Of course these places can afford it since they offer "food&drinks" and other forms of entertainment.Even if there cabs don't make... the most money the rest backs it up.

Btw if you ask me when i thought the arcades were dying.

I'd say the PS1,Saturn and N64 time period of gaming.

Sigh these days i miss the... 80's and early 90's to me that was the "golden age" for arcades.

There are sill lots of busy arcades around here, since the Vancouver area is more or less an extension of Asia.

It's mostly fighting games though.  :(
