I use isopropyl alcohol, but I am kind of surprised to hear about total submersion. For some reason I would have never thought that would be fine, but I suppose it is sealed...

This gets me thinking about older optical drive systems in general. I suppose I should investigate some preventative maintenance for them. Any suggested reading?

Congrats!

Now that I have my setup, I have a loose working AV booster in cosmetically rough condition I'm considering selling/trading. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure?

Thanks in advance.

Its pretty cheap too compared to Ebay. Or you can wait for someone here to sell you one.
I just bought my Arcade Card Pro from them. Great service!

I have the Famicom version, but haven't checked the PCE one. It sounds like I need to give this one a look!

I'm just amazed that I don't have to wait for tape!

Just an aside, if you have an iOS device, I'd recommend one of the Console Music apps from Croissant Production: https://sites.google.com/site/croissantprod/

There are only free trial versions for NES, SNES, and Playstation right now, but you can buy the ability to play chiptunes from a large range of consoles (they even have/had a holiday special for full unlock for $4, not sure if it is still available at this moment) including PCE/Turbo.

I'm not affiliated with it at all, but I use this app all the time to listen to chiptunes.

I just checked out a video of this on YouTube. It looks pretty fun, count me in!

The pic makes it look much more yellow than it is, must be the lighting.

Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to picking up a Turbo Everdrive when I can scratch up some more funds. In the mean time playing these two will keep me very busy. :D

OK, so the final items I needed to get up and playing came in today:

and completes the setup:

Popped in some Ninja Ryukenden and Rondo of Blood and had a fun evening. I felt pretty good about myself and got all the way to the Masked Ninja in Ninja Ryukenden. Once I lost to him I didn't have the heart to go all the way back again. It's time to start exploring the library!

Really great of you to do this. Sign me up!

I have to say, I don't think I've ever been to another site with so many users doing these types of give aways. Great community.

I'm in, awesome! Thanks for doing this.

A little update. I received my CD-ROM2 from Keith Courage (thanks!) and it looks great. It tests well on its own. An IFU-30 is on its way and should be here in a few days. I've got a line on a controller and Arcade Card Pro, so it's slowly coming together :)

Got my drive in today and it looks great. Hoping to snag an IFU-30 soon and give it a nice test drive :)
#20
OK, so it I'm going the CD-ROM route and seem to have that locked down. If anyone can point me towards an affordable IFU-30, controller, and Arcade System Card Pro let me know. I'm in no crazy hurry, and I'm not looking to break the bank.
#21
OK, so I have a solid plan in mind, now to figure out where to gather the pieces. Much appreciation!
#22
OK, since it seems sellers here may be able to source me a CD-ROM and briefcase, I'd just have to mess with the card. With the briefcase setup, I only need the one PSU, correct? Is it the same one that I am currently using for my PCE?

Also, does it have standard AV out, or a special cable? That is one thing I like about the AV booster.

Thanks for all the help. I have a pretty big collection, but this is definitely the most complicated hardware choices I've ever run into.
#23
Excellent, thanks for the fast response. So let's say $70 for CD-ROM, $30 for IFU-30, and $40 for the card, so roughly $140. What would a Super CD set me back?
#24
OK, so a person here is selling refurbed CD-ROM units. So after spending $60-$80 for that, I'd have to pick up the IFU-30 and an Arcade System Card Pro? If the card itself is $35-$60 (I would just go for a cheap loose one), what would a loose IFU-30 run me, and would that be all I needed?

Edit: I guess I need to understand system cards a little better. Is it that the best one will run all previous software, meaning that getting an Arcade System Card Pro will be the only card I needed to play any game? Or would I need it AND a V.3 card?
#25
OK, so I have mostly been lurking about, trying to learn as much as I can. I think it's time to get a plan in place.

This is what hardware I currently have:

US TG-16 with controller

PC Engine w/AV booster, multitap - no controller yet

My objective is to be able to play both Hu Card games and CD games. I plan on picking up a Turbo Everdrive for the Hu Card games.

So with my current setup, what would you recommend as the most cost efficient route?  When it comes to the CD setup I need guidance. Should I go with a Super CD for the PCE since I already have that unit? What is the one system card that will take care of all the games (or will I need several)?

Thanks in advance!

First, I know I am extremely new here, but I am an established seller/trader on other forums, and I'll post links to feedback at the bottom of my post.

I recently picked up a PCE with AV booster and a multitap, but have no controllers or games at this time. I would really like to do some trades if anyone is interested. Obviously my biggest want is a controller, but as for games to start out with I particularly would just like simple shooters or platformers, although I would love to get Ninja Ryukenden. Games don't necessarily need to be complete.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look, and let me know if you are interested.

Quote from: Duke.Togo on 09/24/2012, 12:17 PMHi everyone,

I just recently picked up a PC Engine, and have had a TurboGrafx 16 for some time. I'm interested in learning a little more and finding out some decent games to go with my poor, lonely machine.
Welcome, And yes you must make your machine happy with games ASAP,

try this thread for great TG16 games: https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=12498.0
Thanks, a few of these TG16 games I already have. Nice to know I am starting off on the right foot ;)

I need to dig around here and find a similar PCE HuCard list.
