If my music is dropping out (and slow CD-R load) which pot should I adjust?  Also, should an increase in pot be clockwise or counterclockwise?

I love my CD I've had since 92, gear was replaced but I think my twin brother tinkered with the pots a long time ago in college when the CD quit (unknown gear failure).  Games mostly work but I get music dropping.

I made myself dumber trying to figure out options to cheaply get a better picture for my un-moded TG16 CD on a HDTV.  I run most inputs through a HK 2600 receiver except my TG16.  I have it component directly to the TV.  All this SCART, amps, Chip this, solder this, framemister this is confusing as hell.  My component picture is just dark.

What are my options that works best these days by the current members?  I need to fix my Obey calling!

My PCS back from Germany was great.  The German movers were great and I buttered them up with coffee, free coka-cola, and bought them lunch.  I watched them pack my Black Forrest Grandfather clock, I bought after OIF1, like a hawk.  All in all, Germans were better with my stuff than the US commercial haulers.  I did hand pack 4 black footlockers I accumulated with my valuables and put a pad lock on them.  Good luck with the move back CONUS!

When I was in Germany, APO to the states was about 2 weeks.  To OIF was about a month just because mail runs became a dangerous job because of IEDs.  Thanks for the input.  I guess I will need to pull the trigger on a JPN 3.0 System card.

The system was accurate.  I was shooting competative rifle at the time so my brother and I was shooting standing freehand.  The beam hits we use now are just too time consuming for PMI setup.  NCOs hate beamhit.  I bet this Millinial generation gamers would get a kick out of training on something like this system.

DRMO is awesome.  As a PBO it was always great to visit and find items BN needed.  In 2012 during the closure Kuwait was a gold mine.  All the TV's and other TOC items went fast. 

Too bad they shred most stuff and it would amaze most people of government spending.

These were distributed to Active and Guard/Reserve units. I remember playing on one at 4am at The University of Kentucky ROTC from the Kentucky Guard who set one up with their static display on capmus (pulling security).  Like anything in the army property accountability system, these sets most likely wound up at local post DRMO turn-in sites where most were likely destroyed.  Sometimes law enforcement can get military surplus from DRMO, but most likely most sets were destroyed.

Why does it seem we only got the good stuff for Christmas back then?  So many adults still want the nostakgic effect, have somewhat of jobs, and can buy back some of these memories if we so choose.  I got my NES a full year after all the other kids because the year NES came out I got a Motorcycle.  That dirt bike allowed more fun in 87 or 86 than toys.  We all seemed to have "grown" up as a kid at some point, but if we had the love for TG, wound back up on this board.

My son plays with my Castle Grayskull with a chest full of MOTU.

Ok PC-fx'ers,
This is for the kids of the 80's growing up in the best dang decade ever and a sears wish book out in front of you.  Video games aside, what was your best 80's Christmas gift and why.  We are in our 30/40's now with life bitch slapping us every single day with Mortgages, car payments, rent, car payments, kids, yada, yada.  Looking back to our totally awesome childhood, what did Santa bring you that still resounds with you today!  Rather it be He-man, Transformers, gi joe, Atari, video games, what was that magical Christmas day for you?

For me it was 1982 in Kindergarden and getting Castle Grayskull.  15 years later in College, 1995, it would re-spark a passion that would 5 years later result in a complete MOTU MOC/MIB collection.  I learned once you get everything its like me, now what.  The whole damn thing takes up closet space in storage containers but I love all of it. 

Now, I have a compulsion for Retro video games.  Getting caught up in the craze like toys were in the 90's.  However, that 1982 Christmas was unbelievable.  If only I had gotten Voltron or Optimus Prime who knows.

So, spill your nogasaltigc love for Christmas!

I actually worked at the Westgate TRU between 1996-1998.  I even remember when they had the TG Stuff on 75% clearance and still not moving the stock (did not buy anything) while we worked there.  My brother and I did pick up a SNES on clearance and a few games, mainly for Super Punch Out.  Gave it to our Nephew a year later after his was stolen. I was big on collecting he-man then from the wonders of the internet while in college.  I have a great MOC he-man collection just sitting in my closet. 

That store was awesome and we did purchase China Warrior, Legendary Axe, and Vigalante for 19.99 ea throughout the year in 1991.  I sucked being a broke as kid waiting on Santa or Birthday to bring you games.

I just need to find a Jap 3.0 card and I will be content with my current games.

went by Software Seconds today.  Not a bad store but games were not clearly marked.  Overpaid for a SNES secondary remake controller.  They did have  a TG Express but no games.  They also had a Neo Geo MES which I have never seen in the wild.

I recived the disks Friday.  Can't play them yet on 2.0 TG16 Cd but working an alternate course of action resolution for 3.0 card.  These disks were too hard to pass up!  Actions of those involved to bring this community great, affordable, games restores my faith in humanity!

We got the TG16 from Toys R Us behind Westgate for maybe 75 or 100.  The CD was probably ordered from Sears but can't recall.  Santa gave it to us for being good teenage boys.  The 2 CD games we got after Christmas (Y'3 & Last Alert) came from Haywood Mall Baddges or Electronic Boutique, can't remember which one.

Only one other kid in our School had a TG16, we had to borrow a controller from him b/c ours shorted out!

I will have to Swing by 2nd in Charles next time I'm in Greenville.  Video Cavern aint bad but mostly have common NES et el.

Glad to see another Palmetto patron on the site.  I'm in the SC upstate too.

I've had my Turbo since 1990 but being the young kid back then did not have a whole bunch of games.  My brother and I did get the CD for Christmas but only had 4 games for it.  We got pretty darn good at Fighting Street and kicked ass in Last Alert before our gear gave out in college (we were using the CD as a standalone player to the boom box in our dorm room).  I replaced the gear last year and earlier this month my brother was home and played it.  He was surprised and humble to play again. 

I frequent some of the SC retro gaming stores and all I have come across in the wild was a stack of Real Sports Football.  Pixel and Pawns at Harbison was great but sadly just recently went out of business.

I love my TG 16, but DAMN what a pickey system.  Bad gears, bad capacitors, and now a decision on region mod.  This system takes an investment!

My system has been with me for over 25 years and hopefully tomorrow I can play some blazing lazers!

My brother and I got a TG16 in 91 from money we made putting on a haunted house with expectations to get Splatterhouse (we loved Halloween).  That Christmas we got the CD with fighting street and sherlockholmes.  We only got 2 other cd's after that.  We wound up using the cd player as a standalone through college.  Senior year our roomate from Oregon also had a Turbo and we played alot.  CD gear eventually gave out in 98 until this forum helped me fix it last year!  I've picked up a few more titles and recently Blazing Lazers.  The TG16 is a great console.

Hey guys, quick question. If I do a region mod so I can purchase a much cheaper 3.0 JPN System card for a TG16-CD, would the JPN 3.0 run both the English and Japanese Super-CD's since the CD's are not region protected?

For the price of a US 3.0 card you might as well just purchase a DUO.

It lives!  20 years later I can play (and get some new CDs games).  Thanks all for helping with pots.  I had to move the pot on the same side of the laser 1/8 of a turn and it stopped skipping audio tracks.  Probably need to add some more grease to the track mech.

Quick question.  I've got the new gear in and set my pots close to the pics/default value.  But, the audio cd I tested sounded poor on the first track.  Using the pic above from right to left, which one should I adjust first?  The cd player found all 14 tracks but would not play correctly.

Pardon my ignorance, I have very little electrical knowledge on this DIY project other than this board and 2 youtube videos to go by.  Searching this forum gave little hits on my search.

This cd-rom has not been used since 1996 in my dorm room!

I'm replacing my middle gear this weekend.  However, over a year ago I moved the pots trying to fix the cd-rom before I was able to ID the broken middle gear.

Can someone help me with the default values or a screen shot?  Hopefully I won't have to replace the laser.

Growing up my twin brother and I decided to get a TG16 for one game: Splatterhouse.  By christmas the following year we got the turbo-cd.  Total games 9 (5 hc, 4 cd).  Besides having to share between game over and "my turn" we never had any of the Bonks.  The cd player did enjoy supporting us our Freshman year in college before suncoming to broken cd gear.  I've never played Bonk game.

18 years later I'm getting back into TG16!  I'M IN!!!

I don't remember what it was for me wanting a Turbografx.  1991 and a freshman in high school with my twin brother made some cash running a haunted house.  I guess it was Splatterhouse expectations which would later lead to a Christmas gift Turbo-CD.  We used the CD thtu our Freshman year in college wearing out the gears in the process.  Someday I hope to get it repaird.  Loved the turbografx!

Well, I tried everything yesterday inside th TG16 and on the HuCards.  I wrapped two cards with coffee filter paper; one with rubbing alcohol and the other dry.  Also rubbed the heck out of the card's pins with an eraser.

Sadly, nothing worked.  All this did was change the screen from white to purple.  I think I will most regret losing the T16 CD HuCard and Splatterhouse.  Not willing to spend a whole lot of $ on a replacement card.

However, should I get someone to repair the CD gears and maybe get a new CD hucard or just save up and get a modded PCduo?

*** UPDATE!***
Decided to try and clean the contacts one more time with the expensive deoxit.  It did not work, at first.  I tried it a few nights later reversing a hucard and coffee filter.  Well, it worked!  Now to get the CD drive's gear replaced. Wa-hoo!

Hi guys!  New around here but this seems to be the spot to get answers to my question or dilemia.

Recently I pulled my TG16 w/ CD player out from my parents shop/storage building.  It has been in there for almost 15 years.  I know the CD player is gone from stripped out gears (took it apart).  However all the hu cards that were in the CD storage case won't load EXCEPT Vigallante that was evidently last played in college as it was still in the drive.  Could it be the heat destroyed my Splatterhouse, Keith Courage, China Warrior, TG16 CD cards?  All I get is a white screen but Vigalante works fine.
